The PGA Tour professional golf competition known as the Zurich Classic of New Orleans is presently hosted by TPC Louisiana in Avondale, a suburb southwest of New Orleans. It was first played 85 years ago, in 1938 and has been held every year since 1958. It is usually held in the early to mid-spring.
The main sponsor is Zurich Insurance Group, and the event is planned by the Fore!Kids Foundation. In 1965, the first award reached five figures; in 1988, it reached six figures; and in 2006, it surpassed one million dollars. In 2022, the victorious team divided over $2.39 million.
The Zurich Classic moved to a team format in 2017 and now features eighty duos. Each team starts with one player selected by the Tour priority rankings, and that player's partner must be a member of the PGA Tour or qualify for entry through sponsor exemption.
In the first and third rounds of stroke play, the format was alternate shot (foursome), and in the second and fourth rounds, better ball (fourball). 33 teams, plus ties, make up the cut line.
In addition to receiving two-year exemptions and 400 FedEx Cup points, the winners do not receive invites to the Masters or world ranking points for the tournament. In 2018, the format changed to alternate shots for the second and fourth rounds and fourballs for the first and third rounds.
