The PGA Tour professional golf competition known as the Zurich Classic of New Orleans is presently hosted by TPC Louisiana in Avondale, a suburb southwest of New Orleans. It was first played 86 years ago, in 1938, and has been held yearly since 1958. It usually takes place in the early to mid-spring. The primary sponsor is Zurich Insurance Group, and the Fore Kids Foundation plans the event.
In 1965, the first-place reward reached five figures; in 1988, it reached six figures; and in 2006, it surpassed one million dollars. In 2022, the victorious team divided over $2.39 million.
With eighty partners, the Zurich Classic transitioned to a team tournament in 2017. Each team starts with one player selected by the Tour priority rankings, and that player's partner must be a member of the PGA Tour or qualify for entry through sponsor exemption. For the first and third rounds of the stroke play format, players played alternative shots (foursome), and for the second and fourth rounds, better ball (fourball). 33 teams, plus ties, make up the cut line. In addition to receiving two-year exemptions and 400 FedEx Cup points, the winners do not receive invites to the Masters or world ranking points for the competition.
In 2018, the format changed to alternate shots for the second and fourth rounds and four-ball for the first and third.
