Even in seasons when the Senators missed the playoffs, Stone remained a consistent force, exemplified by his offensive contributions and defensive responsibility. His remarkable consistency led to a trade to the Vegas Golden Knights in 2019, where he quickly became a key player, signing an eight-year contract.

On Jan. 13, 2021, Stone made history by becoming the first captain in Golden Knights history. In the subsequent season, he achieved a remarkable feat in the NHL modern era, playing a pivotal role as the first captain to lead a team to its inaugural Stanley Cup victory. Stone secured this milestone with a hat trick in a decisive 9-3 victory over the Florida Panthers in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final.
