He was drafted by the Ottawa Senators as the 178th overall pick in the 6th round of the 2010 NHL Entry draft. In the 2014-2015 season, Stone showcased his talent and was named among the top scorer with 64 points. His performance earned him the nomination for the prestigious Calder Memorial Trophy. Stone's career took a significant turn in the 2018-2019 season when he was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights. On March 8, 2019, Stone signed a long eight-year contract with the Golden Knights and became the captain of the league.

Mark's amateur hockey journey started with the Winnipeg Thrashers in the Manitoba Midget 'AAA' Hockey League. He also participated in the 2008 Telus Cup where he was named as the top scorer.
