A brilliant swan song for Scotland in this World Cup. They perhaps caught themselves in the wrong group with two of the last T20 World Cup champions. In any other group, they would have probably qualified by now. England would feel they are lucky to get through because this Scotland team deserved a lot more. Hopefully, a stronger ICC sees their case and allows them a few more games outside the World Cup. Till then, it's the same old Aussies advancing ahead with ease. Mitchell Marsh (Australia): All good, man. My hands just passed the handshake test! We knew we had qualified but spoke about sticking together. Scotland are a really good side. They have improved a hell of a lot in the last few years and we wanted to give them the respect. We have spoken about staying consistent in how he wants to play and if we fail, we fail our way. We were pushed right to the end and came through. It was a good game of cricket. The World Cup starts again now. We have a lot of trust in our group. T20 is a hard format and anyone can beat you on the day. (On England talks) I think more externally than internally. But we won today and that's all that matters.
Richie Berrington (Scotland): The guys gave us a good platform in the first 10-12 overs, but we couldn't capitalize on it. We were right in the game till the halfway stage in the second innings. Unfortunately, we couldn't manage to execute our plans for long enough. They have a lot of big-hitters and we gave away too many big overs. The breeze plays a role and we tried to make them hit away from the breeze, we did that well occasionally but other times we missed. The guys can hold their heads high for how they've played their cricket throughout the tournament. Fantastic knock from Head and a few good shots from Stoinis. Great learning for us. We came here to go to the next stage but unfortunately, we have just not done enough.
Marcus Stoinis (Player of the Match): The plan was usual, to get yourself in and play the ball hard along the ground. There was a strong breeze, which meant it was easy to hit that area. The wicket was good as well, we saw how they batted really well. I thought to get myself in, understand the conditions and play my shots. (On batting with Travis Head) He picked his bowler and turned the game in that over. (On a good run in the World Cup) I think I have been fortunate to playing for a long time, with the IPL last week. I have had game time under my belt, but there is no substitute to confidence.

What a brilliant game of cricket. It started with the mind games that began with that Hazlewood press conference. It might have sent jitters in the England camp which would have been at their peak when Sole settled under that high ball from David. But now it all must be settled. They can relax. The season of upsets can't push Australia. They are still unbeaten against associates in this format. And England owe them one for it.
Scotland were so good in phase but lost a couple of key moments, which Australia are masters of winning. The target was a tad short of what could have been an extremely challenging total for a side as clinical as the Aussies. Australia didn't start well either, with Warner getting out early, Head and Marsh starting slowly in the powerplay and the latter losing his wicket to the pressure too. Mark Watt's peach to Maxwell truly would have made Scotland believe but it brought in the in-form Stoinis.
He feasted on the loose balls, let Head relax a bit. Their partnership still needed around 12 runs/over at the 14th over mark when Scotland made the error of getting the struggling Leask when they didn't need him there. Stoinis took the chance and earned 18 runs. The next two went for 11 and 24 and despite a belligerent Head's wicket, the match was back in Australia's favor. Watt tried to pull it back again with Stoinis' wicket but he had reached his 50 by then and it didn't matter as much.
Tim David could come in with just a run-a-ball needed and he made sure they got there, as Scotland struggled to maintain shape at the death. The Sole drop in the last over was a big moment but you can say the match was done well before that. Scotland pushed the ODI and Test champions all the way, and exposed a few of their faults but their excellent, excellent campaign ends here.

You can not drop that Sole... It's very difficult here with the breeze but still, you need to catch those. Just to keep breathing.
