There's the inevitable - The match has been abandoned without even the toss. This was always on the cards with the conditions right now in Cartaxo. It is not looking too great for the day either but we will keep our hopes high and will see you hopefully with some better news for the second game of the day at 16:30 IST. For now, this is Sourabh and Darpan taking you leave, see you soon!
Along with the relentless rain that has been falling over the last couple of days, there is also heavy wind that is making matters worse. Let's keep our fingers crosses and hope that the situation gets better!
Update - We've some bad news, unfortunately, the rain is pouring down and the start of the match has been delayed. Stay tuned as we'll keep you posted.
It is pouring down heavily at Cartaxo and it is unlikely that we'll have a start anytime soon. Rico Phull on the broadcast tells us that the pitch as well as the square is completely wet due to consistent rain since yesterday. Also, there is forecast for strong wind of up to 80km/h.
Hence, it looks like it will be a grim day. But if there's one thing that cricket has taught us, is to never leave hope until the final ball is bowled. So, we are still looking on with hope in our eyes and optimism in our hearts. Hopefully, the rain gods will relent and we'll have some action.
We will keep you posted.
After a rain-marred day at the ECS Portugal yesterday where only 2 out of the 5 scheduled matches could be completed, we, Sourabh Agrawal and Darpan Tikiya, are back again on a new day with some exciting European cricket on our plates with Lisbon Super Giants taking on the Coimbra Knights to kick off the day.
Both these teams are coming off losses to Gamblers CC, one more convincing than the other. While Portugal's LSG were on the wrong side of the result in their previous match against Gamblers which was decided by the DLS, Coimbra Knights were given a double hammering by the same team twice in a day.
These two teams have played the least number of matches so far and that is reflecting on the points table, specially for the Lisbon Super Giants. They have won 2 out of the 3 matches played but are yet placed on the fifth position with all the four teams above them having played 5 games each. However, the situation is a bit grim for the Coimbra Knights who have played 2 matches so far and lost both of them convincingly.
Both these teams need points against their names and for that they would first be praying to the rain Gods for showing some mercy so that the teams as well as us fans of European Cricket can enjoy some thrilling action. Let's hope that the passionate cricketers from Portugal can take the field today!
