Speaking of which, the Mumbai Indians take center stage tomorrow, taking on the UP Warriorz. Make sure you join us for the coverage of that game, but for now, that's all we have for you. This is Pratyush Rohra, signing off on behalf of my partner, Soorya Sesha. Goodnight, bye bye!
Right then. That's one of the most clinical performances we've seen this season, if not the most clinical. Delhi Capitals roar back after their loss in the previous encounter, while things seemingly only get worse for the Gujarat Giants. The WPL table is taking shape now and time is running out for teams at the bottom end of the table. The upcoming week could be huge and give us a better idea about how the fight for the playoffs might work out, but things seem more than alright for Delhi Capitals and the Mumbai Indians.
Marizanne Kapp: I didn't actually (know where to pitch the ball) I just wanted to perform for my team and give it my best. I wanted to contribute because I felt like I haven't been able to do so in the last three games. If you want to perform, you have to put in the hard work. It's great to contribute tonight. That's what makes it so tough being an all-rounder (contributing in all three departments). When you bat well and don't bowl well, it doesn't feel nice. Thankfully, I didn't have to bat today. We've got such a nice group of players. From the foreign players to the domestic players. It's been an amazing experience being here.
Meg Lanning (Delhi Capitals): Shafali certainly was (in a hurry). That was pretty cool to watch, I was just cheerleading from the other end. Some very clean hitting, some of the best I've seen. Super performance. I did (give her advice), I said just keep it simple. Stay still and hit the ball straight. It was pretty nice. It seemed like a new ball wicket and they've got some skillful bowlers. When it was short, you could play but the good length was tricky. Shafali didn't make it seem that way. These kinds of chases can be hard if you get into your shell, so we wanted to make sure that doesn't happen. (Kapp) That's her natural length. She was a bit frustrated with her performances, not sure why. She's certainly pleased today. It's the opposite (feeling compared to the previous game). Hoping we can keep this up.
Shafali Verma (Delhi Capitals): I wasn't in a hurry for anything. I just wanted to give my best. Now that it's over quickly we'll rest up well and have fun (grins). In the last game I got out playing the flick. I tried to play with a straight bat that day (in the nets). Thanks to Meg since she told me that I was doing it right and it helped me a lot. Thanks to Meg and my teammates and my family. I am known for hitting sixes and I love hitting sixes. But at the same time whatever I have worked on with my game, I look to execute accordingly and I will look to win games for my team in future. We just wanted to give it our best. (On her chats with Meg Lanning) 100+ wasn't a big score but we knew we couldn't take it lightly. We backed each other and those small things really help on the ground. The wicket was really good. The ball skid on nicely in the first innings. I think 200+ (would have been par). But we stepped up and we'll look to back each other in similar manner.
Sneh Rana (Gujarat Giants captain): It's completely okay. The girls did the best they could do. It wasn't our day so that's fine. It was a bit skiddy and the bowlers missed their line of course. (On the decision at the toss) I feel it was a good decision because the ball was coming quite well onto the bat. It was nice to bat on. (On her finger injury) It is fine, I hope it gets better. (On Shafali's innings) I think she was fantastic tonight. All those shots were incredible.
Delhi Capitals won by 10 wickets with 77 balls to spare!
Sensational. Superb. Sublime. Add whatever words you can find in the dictionary because that was unreal from Shafali Verma. There are wins and then there are wins that deflate your opposition. This one was the latter, unfortunately for the Gujarat Giants. It all started with the fifer from Marizanne Kapp, which helped her side bundle out the Giants for a miserly total, but you have to ask yourself, what would be a good total?
The way Shafali batted tonight was out of this world. Her best knock in this tournament, and probably in a long time. Meg Lanning had the best seat in the house to what was a completely destructive performance from the teenager, with the Delhi Capitals posting 87/0 in the Powerplay. Yes, you read that right. Shafali scored the second-fastest half-century of the tournament to finish this run chase in the eighth over, even before the first timeout could be taken.
Delhi Capitals roar back after a disappointing outing against the Mumbai Indians to get their campaign back on track. Also, making sure that the loss was nothing but a blemish. As for the Gujarat Giants, things go from bad to worse in this tournament. After Beth Mooney was ruled out of the tournament, Sneh Rana is also evidently at not a hundred percent as she leads the side that needs some serious inspiration from somewhere.
We'll hear what the captains have to say about this encounter. Stick around!
7.1 Georgia Wareham to Meg Lanning, FOUR! DONE. AND. DUSTED. Flighted full on leg stump and Lanning gets across the line of it to deploy and aerial sweep over short fine leg. Clears the fielder comfortably as it trickles down to the long leg fence and it wraps up a shellacking of the Giants. Delhi Capitals annihilate Gujarat Giants by 10 wickets with...77 deliveries to spare! Had to scratch my head for some math there!
Georgia Wareham, right-arm leg break, comes into the attack
100 comes up for the Delhi Capitals and we're not even halfway through this innings yet. If you're tracking our feed for updates on this game, it's probably not doing justice to what Shafali Verma is doing right now. Make sure you catch the highlights! Meanwhile, Meg Lanning is enjoying the best seat in the house.

6.6 Mansi Joshi to Shafali Verma, FOUR MORE! 16 off the over and the 100-run stand is up! Tails away outside the off stump as she takes pace off. Right in the slot though and even as Shafali backs away again, she leans into it and carves it up and over cover point as it clears the ropes on a couple of bounces. The Capitals are nearly home!
6.5 Mansi Joshi to Shafali Verma, angling away off a length wide of off stump. Shafali hops across to stab it to the bowler's left
6.5 Mansi Joshi to Shafali Verma, WIDE! Dug into the track as she follows Shafali backing away. A half-sway out of line follows as it lobs over her head to the keeper
6.4 Mansi Joshi to Shafali Verma, digs it into the track outside the off stump as Shafali backs away. Gets high on her as she attempts an upper-cut in vain
6.3 Mansi Joshi to Shafali Verma, SIX! RIDICULOUS POWER! In the slot in the channel again as Shafali backs away to make room. She slices it up and over the sweeper cover region and it's a miscue in all honesty. Nobody guarding the ropes though and it ends up clearing the cushions for half-a-dozen. Oh what a display of power-hitting!
There's not a lot you can do when Shafali Verma is in this kind of a mood, but the Gujarat Giants haven't tried much at all either. No short deliveries. Not even the keeper standing up to the stumps. It's like they've thrown in the towel already.
6.2 Mansi Joshi to Shafali Verma, FOUR! SLICED! THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE! Slower one in the slot outside the off stump as she backs away to access the off-side. She uses her bottom hand and carves it up and over the covers before holding the pose as it makes its way to the fence
6.1 Mansi Joshi to Meg Lanning, full and tailing into the off stump. Lanning stands tall and drives forward down the pitch for a single to long on's left. Time for more Shafali madness!
