It has been a great finish to the season for the Melbourne Stars! They were thoroughly professional in this match with both bat & ball, and also in the field.
Set up by a fantastic batting display by skipper Glenn Maxwell, his unbeaten 154 is the highest individual score in the history of the Big Bash! Giving him able company was Marcus Stoinis who smashed 75* off 31 balls, hitting 4s & 6s almost at will!
The 1st innings total of 273 was the highest team total in the history of the BBL.
The Hobart Hurricanes bowling was a forgettable one with every bowler going for more than 10 runs per over.
The Hobart Hurricanes batting saw Ben McDermott bring up yet another 50 and take the golden cap for the season. D' Arcy Short & Peter Handscomb put together for themselves, some important runs, but those were not enough by any stretch, to take the team over the line.
With that, the Melbourne Stars finish the campaign at 6th in the ladder but the Hobart Hurricanes move on to the Eliminator to take on the Adelaide Strikers in a couple of days' time.
Once again, it was an absolute pleasure bringing the live action to you from the iconic MCG! For now, with Abhishek, this is Bidipto, saying good bye! But stay tuned to our coverage for the BBL Finals with the first game, the Eliminator, taking place on Friday itself! Keep following Sportskeeda!
Glenn Maxwell (Player of the Match): Not really (sinking feeling about my performance). We had to get down straight to play again. Yes, it's a tough season for us. Victoria has been decimated by Covid and some other states as well, but it feels good to play some cricket here.
That is that for the league stage! Melbourne Stars win by 106 runs! A comprehensive win for the hosts in their last match!
