That finally brings us to the end of our coverage from PSL 2024. It was an exciting tournament right from Day 1 and it didn't fail to live up to the expectations on the finals day. Islamabad United waited six years fo lift their 3rd PSL title but the wait is over now. Like always it was a pleasure bringing all the live coverage from this encounter. Till the next time, this is me (Arya Sekhar Chakraborty) signing off also on behalf of my fellow commentator and good mate Rajarshi Das.
It's time for Shadab Khan to recive the glittering PSL trophy. It's time for them to celebrate. They worked very hard for the moment and the celebrations will go on till late night.
Shadab Khan (Islamabad United captain): I have promoted myself to move up the order. I was a batter first earlier so I gave myself a chance to express myself. Batting at No 6 or 7 didn't really help me. I was struggling as a leg spinner when I came here. I am in the process and hopefully in time to come, I will improve as a bowler. If I perform as a bowler it will be great for the team. No Saqlain bhai doesn't scold us much (chuckles). It's very difficult to watch match from outside. After getting out, seeing from the dug out is really difficult for me. We didn't really perform to our best but a sign of a great team is winning despite not producing the best. There were lots of things special in winning the trophy. This year was really special.
Mohammad Rizwan, Multan Sultans captain: In such matches, if it goes to the last ball, you can't look at your weaknesses, got to give credit to Imad the way he bowled. To pick up 5 wickets for so less is a big deal. Credit goes to Iftikhar as well to drag it towards the end. Our batting has been up and down at times, the way Faisal Akram bowled - he has a great future ahead. When you have momentum, you want to keep playing, but I believe in breaking the momentum through time-outs. The fact that they played too well took the game away from us. I'm not content with my batting performance this PSL. Always available for Pakistan at any position with the bat, have done it before, will do it again. Congratulations to the Islamabad United.
305 runs and 14 wickets - Shadab Khan has been adjudged the Player Of The Tournament!
Imad Wasim (Player of the Match): First of all, thanks to almighty for making us champions. I had to make an impact for the team and I am very happy with the performance. Have batted like this before. Hunain found the gap and it was a great moment. I think I am happy playing cricket. I am fit and trying to contribute for the team. I still have four five years of cricket left in me.
It's time for the post-match presentation ceremony.
Islamabad United won by 2 wickets (on the final delivery of the match)
Martin Guptill 50(32) | Imad Wasin 5/23(4) Usman khan 57(40) | Iftikhar Ahmed 2/19(3)
The run chase of 160 was always going to be a tricky one for Islamabad United. The opening duo of Colin Munro and Martin Guptill started off well with a flurry of boundaries. Munro smashed three boundaries in the opening over before Guptill joined in the fun with a massive six. However, the introduction of Khushdil Shah turned the game around. He bagged the important wicket of Munro and followed it up with the wicket of Agha Salman in quick time as the Islamabad H itsd were reduced to 46/2 at the end of the powerplay.
Shadab Khan came out at No 4 and couldn't quite make an impact. Iftikhar Ahmed who had a great time with the bat made an immediate impact with the ball sending back Shadab Khan. It was the partnership of Martin Guptill and Azam Khan which got them back on track. Azam smashed a 22 ball 30 which included 4 fours and a six while Guptill blazed his way to 50 off 32 deliveries which included 4 fours and 3 sixes. A terrible mix up with Azam brought about his downfall.
Usama Mir then removed Azam Khan at a very crucial juncture of the game and it looked the Sultans were Head in the context. They again needed the calmness of Imad Wasim as they kept losing wickets at the other end. Naseem Shah played a superb cameo of 17 which came in just 9 deliveries. He struck some massive blows at very important juncture but was dismissed in the penultimate delivery of the match. It was eventually his brother Hunain Shah who glided one away past backward point to get it done for the Islamabad United.
Azam Khan: I am over the moon right now. When I was with Quetta I just played one match. Islamabad has given me so much confidence in the last three years. The momentum shifted but I knew if I stay out there we can have the advantage. Not happy to have not been to finish it. I have enjoyed my time with Shadab in the last three years. The goal was always to win the championship. I am completely blank now.
Mike Hesson, Islamabad United Head Coach: Went down to the wire, probably the best game of the competition between two quality sides. Went hammer and tong over the 40 overs. Great game of cricket. Went down to the last ball, full house, what more can you hope for? The game doesn't always go your way, so its about sucking up the pressure moments and making sure we go again. We had so many heroes - Imad was exceptional, Tymal, who came out the last minute was exceptional in terms of adjusting to conditions. It was never going to be easy, we kept losing wickets but knew we were ahead. It's just about getting bat on ball - Hunain might have skills with the bat. You don't get a better day to deliver.
Hunain Shah, Islamabad United: I had belief, waited for an opportunity to do something for my team. Couldn't do so in the rest of the matches, but when I was sitting outside, I had belief I'd do something tonight to win the game for my side. Just thought of putting it in the gap and running.
Martin Guptill: A great final for the fans to enjoy. A great night. Really enjoyed it. One decent partnership away from taking the game away. He has standing there hitting the ball nice and clean. It was a pretty good catch.
Naseem Shah, Islamabad United: Out of breath for now, but we had an excellent match. The crowd were entertained to no end, the feeling is unparalleled, will sink in after a while. I try to prepare for such situations with the bat. I practice batting a lot in the nets, also on the sixes. The conversation with Imad was about having belief - we can do this.
Islamabad United are the champions of PSL 2024. What a game for a final. The Multan Sultans took the game to the last ball and it required Hunain Shah to glide that away past the point region for a boundary to seal the deal. Hunain Shah is in years here. What a special moment for the young man and the whole of Islamabad United. Both sets of players produced an absolute spectacle and in the end, Islamabad United becomes the first team in PSL to win the tittle three times. It was very tough for Islamabad United but they just about managed to hold their nerves and seal the deal. A final worth it.

19.6 Mohammad Ali to Hunain Shah, FOUR!!! ISLAMABAD UNITED - THE UNDISPUTED CHAMPIONS OF PAKISTAN FOR THE THIRD TIME!!! They will be laying their hands on that Pakistan Super League trophy after SIX LONG YEARS! If one Shah brother doesn't deliver with the bat in a crunch run chase, the other one sure will - Hunain did - and he's in tears now having run the entire length of the field!!! The entire Islamabad United camp sprinted right onto the park, lifting a triumphant Hunain right after he tapped this full, pacy delivery outside off right between the fielders close in at backward point and third man - both of them being in to save the single!
Hunain Shah, RHB is the new man in.
It can't be happening. This is drama all around. What a ball to bowl at this stage. Bangs it in short and gets a healthy edge straight to Rizwan behind the stumps. Still one more required off the final delivery. What a match we have had for a final.
19.5 Mohammad Ali to Naseem Shah, EDGED AND GONE! DRAMA, DRAMA, DRAMA AND MORE DRAMA!!! The surprise bouncer from Mohammad Ali - he banged this one just outside off. Naseem looked to swat it across the line, got a thick edge, and Rizwan pouches it with glee! One brother departs, and the other one walks in with just one needed off the last ball of the 2024 Pakistan Super League!
Naseem Shah c Mohammad Rizwan b Mohammad Ali 17 (9b, 2x4, 1x6)
19.4 Mohammad Ali to Imad Wasim, the scores are level! Back of a length just outside off, Wasim gets on top of it and drops this one towards cover. The batters hurtle through for a quick run - Ali has a shy at the bowler's and misses
