Commentary

Who can challenge this England outfit? Surely not New Zealand looking at what we witnessed in the first test. The hosts need to rectify their batting vows before the Wellington Test that begins on Friday. The big guns Latham and Williamson fell cheaply in both innings, so they have to step up and challenge this fiery England attack in a pitch that offers more pace, swing and bounce. For England, it's their sixth Test win on the bounce and surely, they will look to clinch the series at Wellington. On that note, it's time to end the coverage here, hope you enjoyed it. Ben Stokes (England Captain): (on whether Baz Ball is on a roll) Stops calling that, you are gonna upset Brendon. Very clinical with the ball and we executed things well. We executed everything that we wanted to to. When you got the likes of Stuart Broad and Jimmy Anderson in your bowling attack, it's going to be tough for any opposition with bat in hand. One of the most pleasing thing is that whatever New Zealand threw with the ball, we managed to counter that. It's just going with what's going to work. (On Wagner) He took an aggressive option by bowling short but sometimes it works and sometimes it's not. The way we set up with the bat on Day 1 and that helps us to stay ahead in the game. It's tough for anyone when Jimmy bowls with the new ball like that. Very blessed to be in charge of this bowling group at the moment. As long as you have 10 wickets, it doesn't matter how many runs you go for. Brookie is carried on with the amazing series in Pakistan. He is an amazing talent and going to be a global superstar. Credit to the senior guys for allowing these young players to express themselves and show what they are all about

Tim Southee (New Zealand captain): Credit to the England team, we were in the receiving ends of a couple night periods, wasn't ideal. We always look back about the decision, we've made the decision and we thought it was the right one, think the way they batted and the rate that they batted got them into that position and good to clear that night, could've bowled a little bit better. The way they played, presented opportunities, in the second we got the 10 wickets but it's about restricting them with the bat, had to take the half chances but strategically they played well better than us. Broad's spell was impressive last night, if we could've got through last night, with not much demons on the surface we could've made a match out of it today. We got a couple of days to look forward to it, different challenge in Basin Reserve, guys are looking forward to it.

Harry Brook is the Player of the Match for his fifty plus scores in both the innings (81 & 54)! Here's what he has to say: It was a good performance from us all, I think we all contributed extremely well, especially the bowlers on a docile pitch with the sun out there. It was a good track to bat on and I backed my strengths. The way we've been playing in the last few months, try to put the pressure back on the bowler but hitting them off their strengths. We're having the most fun, pumped to go out there and play as I like, given the freedom to play the way we want. Was lucky to start in Pakistan, I found a bit of a success in there and I'm trying to carry it forward till here.

England won by 267 runs

It really took a little time for the inevitable to happen and it finally did. It's been 15 years since England's last Test win in New Zealand. Another tough test assignment was cracked by Baz McCullam and Ben Stokes as England pinned New Zealand down with minimum fuss and got a massive win by 267 runs. Yes indeed, 'Bazball' is on a roll and looking unstoppable. A power-packed England outfit were always a favourite against this inexperienced New Zealand bunch but the contest was neck and neck in the first innings.

The difference was how the teams batted in the second innings as England managed to score 374, and in reply, Broad ran through the top order and put the hosts on the backfoot straightaway. There was no contest at all as the Blackcaps were reduced to 28-5 before Bracewell and Mitchell tried to rebuild the innings. They made sure that there weren't further slipups yesterday but England found a way to pick up three wickets for as many runs in the morning. Anderson used the swinging condition to his advantage and wreaked havoc in the middle. Mitchell struck at one end and brought up his half-century, while Wagner and Tickner showed a bit of resistance to delay England's win but Anderson came back and cleaned up the latter in his second spell

45.3 James Anderson to Blair Tickner, OUT! KNOCKED HIM OVER! That is that, it's Anderson who finishes things off as England go 1-0 up in the series. Back of a length into Tickner, shapes back in enough to beat the outside edge and rattle the off-stump. All smiles in the England camp!
