Abhishek Sharma (Player of the Match): "It is not easy for any player going through that form and then switch it around. But thank you to the team and the captain for the support. I knew I had it in me. I talked to Travis about it. I never play anything behind the wicket. But I invented some shots today as they were trying to bowl outside off. It was a good wicket to execute them. (Points towards his parents) We all were waiting for my parents (to come to a game). They are lucky for our team. We (him and Travis Head) did not talk anything. We want to accelerate from the first ball. That is what we have been trying for first match. The partnership I had with Travis spurred me on. Losing four matches back to back is tough. I wanted to break the losing streak. The atmosphere in the team has still been good. Special thank you to Yuvi Paaji (Yuvraj Singh) as well as Suryakumar Yadav. They have been in touch.

Travis Head [Sunrisers Hyderabad]: "Not bad, nice to get the win — it was an exceptional night, and we really needed it. At the halfway point, the work was cut out for us, but I'm happy we ended up on the winning side. We gave ourselves a chance. I was a bit more patient in the first couple of overs — they came at me with a plan, but I took my time and then went after it post powerplay. In different games and different situations, you play accordingly, and the partnership really helped. We just structured it the way we could — we complemented each other with a clear mindset. On that wicket, 280 or 290 might be a par score. The opposition had already put up some high scores, and everything needs to go right when you're chasing 240. It's always good fun playing against your teammates — they always bring out the best in you. Just some friendly banter, nothing serious."

Shreyas Iyer [Punjab Kings captain]: "In a nutshell, we didn't bowl the way we wanted. We want to go back to the drawing board and see what can be changed. The way Abhishek smashed the ball — they didn’t give us much. But if I have to say, I felt the over-rotation could’ve been better from my side, along with the execution. It was a big impact, to be honest. He’s someone who can get you wickets — it's a big blow. (On Ferguson's injury) He’s someone who clicks 140 plus. Niggles are part and parcel of the game, but other bowlers are equally capable of taking wickets. When we were discussing out there — myself and Wadhera while batting — we thought 230 was a good score. It was slower in the first half. But with the dew coming in, it made the ball harder, and their batters made it harder for us. One of the best knocks from Abhishek."

A couple of nights ago, it was a Bengaluru boy who delivered the knockout punch to the Bengaluru franchise. Tonight, a boy from Punjab did the same to PBKS. Abhishek Sharma could have worn a blindfold and walked through a highway tonight, he would have still come off unscathed. Such was his luck. He was caught at deep square leg when he was on 28, it turned out to be a no-ball. Then Chahal put him down on 56. However, it does not take away from the fact that that was some of the cleanest and most belligerent ball-striking you would ever see. Travis Head scored 37-ball-66 in typical Travis Head fashion. But Abhishek's knock completely overshadowed him. That is how good he was!

Don't be surprised if someone in Hyderabad proposes building him a statue. The fans in the stands were intoxicated. They might have sore throats and struggle to speak for the rest of the week, but tonight Abhishek gave them memories that they might be telling their grandchildren about.

We expected a run-fest, didn't we? Two explosive batting line-ups going head to head on a wicket that was touted as a batter's paradise. Yet, it was the unbridled intensity of it which left us awe-struck.

Having got 245, things had to go really wrong for PBKS to lose it. And they did. Lockie Ferguson hobbled off the field after bowling 2 balls, the miscued shots fell in no man's land. The befuddlement is not due to the fact that they lost the match. It is because how paltry was 245 made to seem.

Perhaps, they should forget the last 90-minutes like they never happened and do what every skipper says they will do after losing a match, "take the positives and move forward". Plenty of them from the first innings tonight. Shreyas Iyer's sumptuous 82 (36), the bold intent and the immaculate execution their openers exhibited and Marcus Stoinis' 11-ball-34 will be at the fore of it.
