Having been promoted up the order today, Marko Vaik took charge of taking the attack to the opposition early on. While Usman Sr was a touch erratic with his line, he started off well with the ball, but the game began to drift away from the Wolves after that as Vaik dug in and got on with his job. With immensely quick hands, he proceeded to smash anything and everything that was remotely close to his radar, and by the time the powerplay ended, the Hippos had control over proceedings.

Steffan Gooch got in on the act after the powerplay. The left-hander was done in by a few good deliveries earlier, but once he was in, there was no looking back. Maji came in to bowl the fourth and was punished, and even though Sumran accounted for Vaik next over, Gooch took control and was looking good to guide his side through to a win and a bonus point.

Gooch's run out seemed to foil the Hippos' chances of claiming that bonus points. More so when Henri Pattenden came in, swung at a couple and missed. As it turned out, though, Pattenden got them the bonus point - with 6 needed off the last ball of the 7th, he aimed to clear long off, didn't quite have enough on it, but the man in the deep parried it over. All smiles in the Hippos dugout.
