Canelo Alvarez

Saul Alvarez, popularly known as Canelo Alvarez, is the former unified super middleweight world champion and the incumbent WBA, WBC, and WBO super middleweight title holder. The Mexican professional boxer was raised near Guadalajara, Jalisco, in western Mexico.

Alvarez started amateur boxing at the tender age of 13. His older brother, Rigoberto Alvarez, was his inspiration. Canelo had an illustrious amateur career of 44-2 and showed the world what to expect from him. In the space of 2 years, at the age of 15, he turned pro. Canelo currently holds a near-perfect record of 60-2-2 in professional boxing. He has had dominant wins over some of the big names in the sport. Fights against Gennady Golovkin, Amir Khan, and Billy Joe Saunders showed that Canelo is above his counterparts.

His losses as of September 13, 2024, have come against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Dmitry Bivol. In an episode of Hotboxin' with Mike Tyson, Canelo says while he doesn't regret taking the fight with Mayweather, he certainly wishes he needed more experience as he was just 23 when the war happened -

“I always thought I needed to fight first with [Miguel] Cotto, [Erislandy] Lara and all of those guys and then Floyd,” he continued. “But that’s what it is, you know? That’s what it is. I’m OK."

He comes from a family of fighters. Hence, it is no surprise that he is not the only boxer in the family.
