Boxers in the minimum weight division of professional boxing are limited to weighing no more than 105 pounds (48 kg). The major boxing-sanctioning bodies first introduced this weight division for professionals between 1987 and 1990.

Combat sports use the term "mini flyweight," which is also referred to as "strawweight," "minimumweight," or "super atomweight." Asians and Latin Americans have historically dominated the weight class, with other nationalities having rare success.

The most decorated winners at the start of the new millennium were José Antonio Aguirre and Iván Calderón. Eagle Kyowa, Yutaka Niida, and Muhammad Rachman all won championships. Iván Calderón maintained his WBO championship defense until August 2007, when he switched to the light flyweight class as José Antonio Aguirre started to deteriorate.

In the early part of the 2010s, many of the fighters from the end of the 2000s continued to find success. However, new faces have included Denver Cuello and Kazuto Ioka (the nephew of 1980s champion Hiroki Ioka).

In the latter part of the decade, Thai boxers returned to dominance, with Thammanoon Niyomtrong and Chayaphon Moonsri winning titles and staying undefeated. Mexican boxer Ricardo Lopez has made 21 title defenses, giving him the record for the longest title reign.

History of the Mini Flyweight Class in Pro Boxing

The minimumweight division was originally introduced in 1968 for the Summer Olympic Games under light flyweight.

However, the division was not recognized by any of the four sanctioning bodies until the International Boxing Federation (IBF) in June 1987, when Kyung-Yun Lee knocked out Masaharu Kawakami to become the inaugural champion.

The World Boxing Council (WBC) first recognized the division in October 1987, followed by the World Boxing Association (WBA) in January 1988, and the World Boxing Organization (WBO) in August 1989.
