Path of Exile 2’s mini-bosses are truly powerful, but Areagne Forgotten Witch stands out among the Act I's optional fights. She’s one of the most frustrating ones, thanks to her constant Lightning Explosions, and her shielding. However, she’s not invincible, though it might seem like it at first. Going out of your way to fight these bosses is often worth it, as they grant powerful equipment and useful items.
You’ll come across Areagne Forgotten Witch fairly early in Path of Exile 2’s Act 1, as you explore the Grelwood. While the maps are randomized, we can help with clues to find her, similarly to Beira of the Rotten Pack, as well as tips to overcome her might.
How to beat Areagne Forgotten Witch in Path of Exile 2
Areagne Forgotten Witch appears in Grelwood, one of the Act 1 regions of Path of Exile 2. While the map is randomized, there is a clue you can look for. Seek out a lone hut with a checkpoint outside, and what looks like an Elk skull or something similar outside. Inside, you’ll find a witch, and a cauldron you can interact with.
She will teleport outside, and the fight will immediately begin. She has two affixes, Periodic Lightning Explosions and Extra Energy Shield. The Lightning Explosions come from a series of sparks that she spits/casts out, which land around the battleground. They are pretty large AOE attacks, so you certainly want to avoid them if you can. The Energy Shield speaks for itself - but if you have poison, you can make quick work of it.
Path of Exile 2’s Areagne Forgotten Witch can also spew out a cone of electricity that she’ll move in front of her in a bit of a small arc. This makes it easy to dodge roll around and get out of the way - but this can happen at the same time as the Lightning Explosions. She also has the power to drop several icy AOEs to try and freeze you.
If those weren’t frustrating enough, Werewolf Prowlers also occasionally show up to harass you, as do Fungal Zombies. This fight is all about managing lots of adds, and avoiding the ground-based AOEs that she floods the screen with. It makes depleting her shield much harder.
If those weren’t frustrating enough, she can also teleport around and deliver these AOEs all over her little battlefield. Combine that with the constant swarms of adds, and this makes for a very challenging fight. Each time she teleports, she also leaves an icy AOE where she appears at.
Thankfully, she has no other attacks - Areagne Forgotten Witch’s ability to flood the screen in damage circles is already a threat enough. Just keep moving, and whittle her down when there’s an opening.
Ranged characters have a much easier time with this, as does any other who can ignore Energy Shields, such as poison attacks. She can reward Rare equipment, Orbs of Transmutation, Gold, and Uncut Support Gems.
