You may encounter The Crowbell while in Path of Exile 2’s Hunting Grounds map. It’s a unique boss fight, as after engaging it, you will have to chase it down to finish the fight off. The name is also a bit misleading at first, too - it is a hulking, humanoid Crow, but there’s no bell involved — that doesn’t show up until a little bit later. This optional mini-boss also shows off one of Grinding Gear Games’ real passions in PoE 2.
The final part of Path of Exile 2’s Crowbell boss fight takes place in a very small area, where there’s almost no room to maneuver. It’s an even tighter space than where you fight The Rust King or The Brambleghast. However, if you’re having a hard time, we’re here to get you through this boss battle.
How to beat The Crowbell in Path of Exile 2
The Crowbell, like many Path of Exile 2 mini-boss fights, has a tell that shows you’re close to the battle. For example, Areagne, Forgotten Witch hides in a very obvious witch’s hut in the woods. When looking for The Crowbell, look for the Checkpoint near an open gateway, as seen below. It’s a unique thing for this area, so it’s hard to miss while exploring.
When you reach the dead end, the Crowbell fight will begin in Path of Exile 2. It’s not very fast, so if you have ground-based poison attacks, these do incredibly well against him. It will leap forward to punch you and has a wide-arcing melee strike. After you deal about 10% or so of its health, it will run away, prompting you to chase it if you want.
The next phase takes place in that tiny alcove between the gates you entered to get here. It’s very small, and Path of Exile 2’s Crowbell is quite large. The attacks are the same, though, you just have less room to maneuver in. Dodge rolling is going to come in quite handy here. Thankfully, he also has less room to avoid your attacks, too.
Crowbell will continue to charge, punch, and swing at you, as normal, until it hits about 40-50% HP. Then it will do a repeated series of punches at the ground, which have splash damage. This can one-shot squishier characters — as it did me the first time I fought the boss. After this, the boss should flee, grab a nearby bell, and run south again.
Crowbell’s final encounter is in a tiny arena, with red thorned vines scattered around the walls. It won’t be hard to chase the boss down. However, it’s another tiny area, and his attack radius gets a lot bigger. Now he has the bell to smash the ground with. It’s a fairly large AOE strike in this tiny area.
It still has a regular melee strike with its free hand, but the bell is the far stronger of the two melee abilities. When down to about 25% or so health, Crowbell will begin to swing the bell in a huge arc — often back to back.
It’s devastating, and you want to avoid that at all costs. However, it has no further new attacks to throw at you. Besting the boss for the first time will grant you a Book of Specialisation, which grants more Weapon Set Passive points.
