The NASCAR Cup Series is the pinnacle of the stock car racing series. It is the highest tier in the three NASCAR series. The NASCAR Cup Series is an event of 36 races over a year. The races are scheduled on different tracks spanning across the entirety of America. NASCAR racing is synonymous with oval racing. Drivers race in files taking laps around a banked oval and the first to reach the finish line wins the race. NASCAR implements stage racing during its events. There are three stages, with the winner of the final stage becoming the race winner.
The NASCAR Cup Series includes a 36-race schedule but is divided into two legs for the drivers' championship. The first leg of the championship, also known as the Regular Season, involves drivers racing through 26 different events to win a spot in the NASCAR playoffs. The second leg of the championship sees the title-deciding final races. During these 10 races, the bottom four drivers are eliminated every third race. The NASCAR Championship is decided at the Phoenix Speedway between the last 4 remaining drivers. The highest-ranking driver out of these 10 races claims the NASCAR Cup Series title for the season. The Regular Season champion is also awarded with a Regular Season championship.
Note: The fact that drivers are eliminated from the championship does not mean they won’t be allowed to participate in the races. They can still participate and win races however it will not count towards their championship points. There is a visual identification system applied to the playoff cars to distinguish championship contenders from non-championship contenders.
