3 exciting matchups to watch out for ahead Week 4 CFL games ft. Alouettes take on Argonauts in battle of undefeated heavyweights 

Week 4 of the CFL is upon us and there are some exciting subplots and storylines to follow. The Lions and the Elks get things started with the first of the four games. Then Montreal and Toronto go head-to-head before the action moves West for Winnipeg and Calgary's matchup. The Redblacks and Tiger-Cats end the program on Sunday as the country gets ready to celebrate Canada Day on Monday.

Here are some plots to keep an eye on.

3 matchups to keep an eye on during Week 4 of the CFL

#1. Alouettes take on Argonauts in battle of undefeated heavyweights

Montreal versus Toronto. Quebec versus Ontario. French versus English. Take it any way you like and add in the fact that both teams are undefeated in the East Division. The Alouettes are 3-0 and the Argos are 2-0. How's that for a subplot? If that's not enough, they met in the East Division Championship last season. Still not satiating? Consider that these two teams have won the last two Grey Cups.

This is a heavyweight clash. Toronto, hosts of the game, are undefeated in 11 matches on their home turf. The last team to beat them was Montreal, who themselves will enter this game on the back of an 11-game winning streak including last season's playoffs.

The Alouettes have the meanest defense in the CFL and have allowed just 17.7 points per game. The Argonauts, meanwhile, have the best offense with 37 points scored per game and new quarterback Cameron Dukes settling in so quickly that he is the only starter yet to throw an interception. This should be a nail-biter.

#2. Demerio Houston's fascinating matchup against winless Bombers as he faces his old team

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have arguably been the most consistent team in the last half-decade. They have reached four Grey Cup finals in that time and the only time they did not was when the entire 2020 campaign was cancelled because of the COVID pandemic. They have won two editions in those four appearances, albeit the two losses having come in the previous two years.

And now, it looks as if the downward trend has taken hold. They are 0-3 and face an ascendant Calgary. And playing for them would be cornerback Demerio Houston. He was part of Winnipeg's success until last year but they let him enter free agency and the Stamps acquired him. He will be looking to add to his interception tally against his former team.

#3. Shemar Bridges versus Justin Hardy will determine which CFL team wins on Canada Day

The final game in Week 4 of the CFL leading into Canaday Day sees us in the nation's capital. The Redblacks will be looking to rebound after falling to a 1-1 record on the back of a 47-21 mauling last week at the hands of the Alouettes. They will have ideal opponents in the Tiger-Cats, who are 0-3 this season and desperately need a win.

While quarterbacks are the most important players in any football game, this could be settled by two wide receivers. Justin Hardy is establishing a connection in Ottawa with new quarterback Dru Brown. His 18.1 yards per catch are the highest in the league.

For Hamilton, one of their main issues has been Tim White's struggles. The leading receiver from last season has not found his form this season. But Shemar Bridges has stepped up with 22 catches and 270 receiving yards. If the two of them click together, they could come back with a win.
