5 WRs who will see their production drop in 2024 feat. DJ Moore

Wide receivers are becoming more and more integral in today's NFL, with the position becoming the premier way of teams scoring touchdowns and making their way down the field. Traditionally, this was primarily the job of the running back, and while they still have a part to play, wideouts are particularly crucial.

In 2023, we saw some outstanding seasons from some of the best WRs in the NFL, with Tyreek Hill seeming to go off every single week with the Miami Dolphins.

Whilst Hill isn't expected to let up in 2024, there are some wide receivers who may see their important production decrease. This could be down to a number of factors, including new quarterback, new team, new coach and scheme, or perhaps the player is past their peak.

WRs who will see their production drop in 2024

#5 - Adam Thielen

Many were shocked by how good Adam Thielen was in 2023, joining the Carolina Panthers after a lengthy stay with the Minnesota Vikings.

Thielen acted as a safety blanket for rookie QB Bryce Young, putting up 1,014 yards and four touchdowns on 103 receptions. This was despite Thielen turning 33 before the season started.

In 2024, Thielen will have to contend with new weapons in the Panthers' receiving corps, such as Diontae Johnson and Xavier Legette. He will be 34 years old in August. Expect his production to decline in 2024.

#4 - Rashee Rice

Rashee Rice has already been in hot water this offseason, having dealt with assault allegations and being involved in a car accident in his home state of Texas.

Despite Rice returning to the Chiefs for 2024, he may see his production decline. Rice was a sensation as a rookie, becoming Patrick Mahomes' favorite target outside of Travis Kelce. However, the Chiefs signed free agent Hollywood Brown, as well as drafted Xavier Worthy, meaning Rice's targets and yardage are under threat.

#3 - Tyler Lockett

Tyler Lockett has been one of the most consistent wide receivers in the NFL since being drafted in 2015, putting up four separate 1,000 yard seasons, as well as amassing 59 receiving touchdowns.

However, Lockett had a down year in 2023, totalling 894 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 79 receptions. This was in part due to the emergence of rookie wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Despite a slow start, Smith-Ngijba displayed flashes of brilliance and became more of a constant threat as the season progressed.

Expect JSN to start alongside DK Metcalf in 2024, with Lockett playing a bit-part role, especially as he turns 32 in September.

#2 - D.J. Moore

DJ Moore had a fantastic 2023 season for the Chicago Bears, totaling 1,364 yards and eight touchdowns on 96 receptions. However, since then, the Bears have moved on from QB Justin Fields to draft rookie Caleb Williams.

Along with Williams, Chicago also drafted WR Rome Odunze ninth overall, while also acquiring veteran Keenan Allen. Moore will not only have to build rapport with a new quarterback, he will have much stronger competition for targets in 2024 than in 2023.

#1 - Stefon Diggs

Much like D.J. Moore, Stefon Diggs will be dealing with much stronger competition for targets in 2024. Diggs was part of a blockbuster trade that saw him leave the Buffalo Bills to sign with the Houston Texans. However, as a result of this move, his production may decline in 2024.

Diggs comes off another fantastic season in 2023, where he totaled 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns on 107 receptions. But in 2024 with his new team, he will have some stud wide receivers to compete for targets with. Both Nico Collins and Tank Dell were excellent in 2023, building an immediate rapport with rookie sensation C.J. Stroud.

Despite the aggressive move to grab Diggs, he may have to be content with less production in 2024.
