How much will the Eagles pay Jalen Hurts next year? NFL insider claims QB will get Aaron Rodgers money

NFC Championship - San Francisco 49ers v Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts

Jalen Hurts solidified himself as the franchise quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles this season. The former Alabama Crimson Tide star will lead the Eagles into Super Bowl 57 against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Hurts played like a top-five quarterback and there is a chance he will be paid like one soon.

Per ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, the Eagles quarterback could see a deal similar to Green Bay Packers star Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers signed a three-year contract extension worth over $150 million last March.

"I expect the Eagles to work to sign quarterback Jalen Hurts to an extension early in the offseason.
"They know the price has likely gone to $50 million a year or more, and with Cincinnati's Joe Burrow and the Chargers' Justin Herbert also extension-eligible this summer, and a Lamar Jackson megadeal still possible, the prices at the top of the QB market could ratchet up quickly."

Fowler added:

"Say Trevor Lawrence and/or Justin Fields has a big 2023 and are in line for an extension next summer, or the Cowboys get something done with Dak Prescott. The sooner the Eagles get their deal done with Hurts, the less time the market has to drive up the price."

Jalen Hurts is in his third season in the NFL and second as the Eagles' full-time starter under center. The Pro Bowler's current contract expires following next season. According to Spotrac, the market value for Hurts' contract is a six-year, $265.4 million deal with an average salary of $44.2 million.

This projected new deal would make him the sixth-highest-paid quarterback in the NFL. While this may not be the exact contract the 24-year-old gets, he has proven worthy of a new deal.

Jalen Hurts' 2022 season guaranteed a contract extension from the Eagles

Hurts started 15 games for the Eagles in the 2022 season, throwing for 3,701 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions. His 101.4 passer rating was the fourth-highest in the league this season. The superstar signal-caller was also a force on the ground as well, rushing for 13 touchdowns, which was tied for second.

He finished second in the NFL MVP voting and third in the Offensive Player of the Year voting. Jalen Hurts and Mahomes will make history as the first two black quarterbacks to face off in a Super Bowl. Hurts would be the fourth-youngest and the fourth black quarterback to win a Super Bowl.

He will join Mahomes, Russell Wilson, and Doug Williams on that list.

We will see if the Eagles will give their franchise quarterback a huge contract this offseason. A victory in Super Bowl 57 might add a few more zeros to Hurts' contract.
