The Philadelphia Eagles were one of the best teams in football last season. Led by coach Nick Sirianni, they were the NFC Champs and boasted an impressive 14-3 record while making the Super Bowl.

From top to bottom, the Eagles had one of the most complete and talented rosters in the NFL a season ago thanks to general manager Howie Roseman.

Former Eagles Pro Bowl linebacker Ike Reese, who retired from the NFL in 2006 joined Sportskeeda's exclusive Ballfather podcast to talk about the philosophy of Sirianni and how he runs the system in Philly.

Reese said:

"Nick brought up, when talking about Sean Desai, he talked about getting more familiar, waiting and spending more time. Going over to some of the things that from a coaching philosophy that Nick sort of lends itself to in trying to make sure they mirror each other.
"And so that's important as opposed to having a defensive coach coming in and saying, 'Well, this is the way I like to do things. This is how I would do things.'"

Reese added:

"No, I mean, it's important that if a head coach doesn't want you to be as risk taking of a deep fizz as you are used to doing, because he has a philosophy that compliments what he does on orbit. Then as a defensive coordinator, you got to be willing to be flexible enough to adjust and go along with that and not feel some weight.
"So I give that as an example, just to say. It's important to them to have the right coaches on their coaching staff."

The host of the Ballfather podcast then responded that Sirianni interviewed 12 people for the job.:

"Well, it obviously worked because defensively you were obviously arguably the best team in football. If you look at the numbers with the sacks and the give or take plus chart your plus whatever was plus 17 going into the Super Bowl, I think it was. And then I'm just looking at my notes there. I mean, the coach Sirianni, when he landed, probably landed his linebackers coach, D.J. Elliott. They interviewed 12 people. Who does that?

Reese responded:

"Nobody does that."

Will the Philadelphia Eagles be the same team after many key players left in free agency?

The Philadelphia Eagles have lost many key players this offseason. They've lost DT Javon Hargrave, running back Miles Sanders, safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, OL Andre Dillard, OL Isaac Seumalo, linebackers T.J. Edwards and Kyzir White, and safety Marcus Epps.

The Eagles were able to retain Jason Kelce, Brandon Graham, Fletcher Cox, James Bradberry, Darius Slay and Boston Scott. They also added running back Rashaad Penny, S Terrell Edmunds, DT Kentavius Street, CB Greedy Williams and QB Marcus Mariota.

Players like DT Jordan Davis and LB Nakobe Dean will play bigger roles in 2023.

While the Eagles have lost many key players, they are still one of if not the deepest teams on paper on both sides of the ball. General manager Howie Roseman has done a good job shaping up the roster this offseason and the Eagles should be contenders in 2023.
