J.J. McCarthy is the latest entrant to the bad first-pitch club. However, this pitch has many Minnesota Vikings fans worried about the upcoming season, apart from making a few jokes on the rookie’s behalf.

McCarthy took the mound at Target Field ahead of the game between the Minnesota Twins and the Tampa Bay Rays. The rookie’s pitch went way left from the catcher, which left the crowd bemoaned.

“JJ McCarthy’s first pitch was….. not great.”

McCarthy’s throwing skills put a frown on many of the Minnesota Vikings fans’ faces. They expressed their concerns regarding their new QB and the upcoming season.

“I got a feeling this season is going to suck”
“Honestly, this is a horrible sign and I wish it wasn't,” another fan wrote.

Some fans took into account the recent reports from the Vikings’ minicamp that J.J. McCarthy hasn’t been up-to-date.

“That's a quarterback? Houston, we have a problem”, wrote one fan.
“Rumor has it he looked the same in mini camp”, suggested another.
“Based off of practice reports as well, I’m fearful that he has the yips.”, wrote down a Vikings fan.

However, some fans took the sarcastic road as they made fun of McCarthy’s pitching skills.

“Showing that pinpoint accuracy again I see.”, joked one fan.
“This really isn’t that hard… any NFL quarterback should make this look easy. Or college. Or high school for that matter lol”, wrote another fan.

The former Michigan quarterback was drafted 10th overall by the Vikings in the 2024 NFL Draft.

J.J. McCarthy behind Sam Darnold for the starting position per NFL Insider

Despite being a top-10 draft pick, J.J. McCarthy hasn’t been able to solidify his position as the starter. As per NFL insider Kevin Seifert, McCarthy is behind free agent signing QB Sam Darnold.

"After two days of minicamp, and with one final week of OTAs remaining, he's squarely behind veteran Sam Darnold on the depth chart,” Seifert wrote via ESPN.

The Vikings begin their season against the New York Giants on September 8.
