Chase Kalisz is an American swimmer born on 7th March 1997. He is a native of Bel Air city of Maryland in the United States. Chase specializes in Individual Medley and represents the USA in 200m and 400m Medleys.
Background
Chase Kalisz was born to Mike Kalisz and Cathy Kalisz. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland and he currently resides in Bel Air city. Chase has three siblings, Courtney, Connor, and Cassidy.
Chase began swimming at the young age of 5. He attended Fallston High School in his hometown. After graduating from high school in 2012, he joined the University of Georgia, where he was trained by Jack Bauerle of the Georgia Bulldogs. As a freshman, Chase won 200m Butterfly, 200m Breaststroke, and 200m Individual Medley in his first collegiate meet. He went on to represent his college team at the NCAA Championships.
In 2016, Chase Kalisz graduated with a degree in Sociology and History from the University of Georgia. Currently, he trains with the North Baltimore Athletic Club and coach Bob Bowman.
Rise to Glory
Chase Kalisz got his first career breakthrough in 2011 when he won the Bronze medal in 400m Individual Medley at the Charlotte UltraSwim Grand Prix. In 2012, Chase won his first national title in 400m Individual Medley at the AT&T Winter National Championships.
In 2013, Chase won the 400m Individual Medley title at the NCAA Division Swimming Championships. That year, he won his senior national title in 400m Medley at the US National Swimming Championships. In 2014, Chase defended his NCAA title 400m IM and won a Silver medal in 200m IM at the championships.
In 2017, Chase Kalisz shattered his national record while claiming the 3rd 400m Individual Medley title at the NCAA Division 1 Swimming Championships. That year, he won the 400m IM and 200m IM titles at the US National Swimming Championships.
Major Achievements
Chase Kalisz made his international debut at the 2011 World Junior Swimming Championships, where he finished 4th in 200m Individual Medley. Two years later, in 2013, he won the Silver medal in 400m Medley at the World Aquatics Championships.
In 2015, at the World Aquatics Championships, Chase won the Bronze medal in 400m Medley. The following year, he made his Olympic debut at the Rio Olympics and took home the Silver medal in 400m Medley. In 2017, Chase clinched the Gold medal double in 200m Medley and 400m Medley at the World Aquatics Championships.
In 2018, Chase won two Gold medals in 200m Medley and 400m Medley at the Pan Pacific Championships. At the 2019 World Aquatics Championships, he won the Bronze medal in the 200m Medley.
Chase Kalisz will look to secure a spot on the US Olympic Team for the 2021 Tokyo Championships via the US Olympic Qualifiers and shall be in contention to win a medal in 200m and 400m Medleys.
