Chen Yufei: A Brief Biography

Chen Yufei is a Chinese female badminton player born on 1st March 1998. She hails from Hangzhou city of Zhejiang in China. She represents China internationally in the Women’s Singles. Chen Yufei is currently World's No.1 woman badminton player.

Chen Yufei began to pursue a career in badminton at a young age. She first came into the international scene in 2013 when she won the Gold medal in the mixed team at the Asian Junior Badminton Championships. That year, Chen won the Bronze medal in the mixed team event at the World Junior Championships.

In 2015, Chen Yufei reached her first senior international final at China International and lost to Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi. That year, she became runner-up at the Indonesia International Grand Prix Gold. The following year, Chen Yufei won the Asian Junior and World Junior Badminton titles in Girls’ Singles.

In 2018, Chen Yufei won her first World Tour title by defeating Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara at China Open. She would go on to clinch 8 World Tour titles, including the prestigious England Open and BWF World Tour Finals (2019). At the 2018 Asian Games, Chen Yufei won the Silver medal in the women’s team event. That year, she and her Chinese women’s team won the Bronze medal at the Uber Cup.

At the World Badminton Championships, Chen Yufei won two Bronze medals in 2017 and 2018. In 2018 and 2019, she took home a Silver medal and a Bronze medal respectively at the Asian Badminton Championships.

Chen Yufei qualified for her debut Olympics at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics as the World No.1 in the Women’s Singles.
