Duncan Scott: A Brief Biography

Duncan Scott is a British/Scottish swimmer born on 6th May 1997. He hails from Causewayhead in Scotland, United Kingdom. Duncan is a Freestyle specialist and represents Great Britain and Scotland in 100m and 200m Freestyle events.

Background:

Duncan Scott was born to William McNaughton Scott and his wife. He was born in Glasgow and raised in the Alloa town of Clackmannanshire in Scotland. Duncan’s elder Alex Scott is a professional swimmer and a former women’s swimming team captain at the University of Dundee.

Duncan was introduced to swimming when was young. He had spent his primary years of schooling in Alloa town before moving to Strathallan School, a boarding school, on a sports scholarship to complete his secondary education. Throughout his high school years, Duncan had spent more time in training every day.

In 2015, after graduating from Strathallan School, Duncan enrolled at the University of Stirling, where he trained under coach Steven Tigg. He had represented his university at the British Swimming Championships between 2016 and 2019.

In 2019, Duncan Scott graduated with BA (Honours) in Business Studies and Sports Studies from the University of Stirling.

Rise to Glory:

Duncan Scott received his major career breakthrough which got him national fame after 8 Gold medals at the 2013 Scottish Junior Swimming Championships. The following year, he was crowned as European Junior Champion in 200m Individual Medley and 4x100m Freestyle and won a Bronze medal in 4x200m Freestyle at the European Junior Swimming Championships.

At the 2014 Youth Olympics, Duncan helped his Great Britain relay team to clinch the Gold medal in 4x100m Freestyle. In 2016, he clinched his first national title in 100m Freestyle at the British Swimming Championships. Duncan defended his 100m Freestyle title in the following year.

At the 2019 British Swimming Championships, Duncan Scott took home 4 national titles in 100m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle, 400m Freestyle, and 200m Individual Medley. He has three Individual national records to his name in 100m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle, and 200m Individual Medley.

Major Achievements:

Duncan Scott made his senior international debut at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, where he won the Silver medal in 4x200m Freestyle. The following year, he bagged three Gold medals in 100m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle, 4x100m Freestyle, and as many Silver medals in 4x200m Freestyle, 4x100m Medley, and 4x100m Mixed Freestyle at the European Games.

Duncan made his Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where he won two Silver medals in 4x200m Freestyle and 4x100m Medley. At the European Aquatics Championships, he took home five Gold medals in 4x100m Medley (2016 and 2018), 4x100m Mixed Medley (2016), 200m Freestyle and 4x200m Freestyle (2018), and a Silver medal in 100m Freestyle (2018).

At the European Swimming Championships, Duncan had won a Silver medal (2019) and a Bronze (2017) in 200m Freestyle, a Silver in 4x50 Mixed Freestyle, and a Bronze in 100m Freestyle (2017). In 2018, he bagged six medals at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, including a Gold in 100m Freestyle, a Silver medal in 200m Medley, and 4 Bronze medals in 200m Freestyle, 200m Butterfly, 4x100m Freestyle, and 4x100m Butterfly.

Duncan Scott had won three World Aquatics titles in 4x200m Freestyle (2015 and 2017) and 4x100m Medley (2019), a Silver in 4x100m Medley (2017), and a Bronze medal in 200m Freestyle (2019) at the World Aquatics Championships.

In April 2021, Duncan Scott secured his spot on the Great Britain Olympic Team for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics via British Olympic Selection Trials and he will be competing in 100m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle, and 200m Individual Medley.
