Kai Asakura Early Life
Kai Asakura’s martial arts journey began with karate, sumo, and volleyball in his elementary school years. Growing up, he and his brother Mikuru frequently engaged in street and sibling fights, shaping Kai’s toughness. A therapist recommended boxing classes to channel their energy, and later, Mikuru introduced Kai to mixed martial arts at the Zen Dokai Toyohashi Dojo during high school, sparking his passion for fighting.
Asakura debuted professionally with DEEP, securing a first-round TKO against Tomoya Suzuki. After a hiatus, he joined the Outsider series, achieving quick victories via TKO and submission. Transitioning to Road FC, he continued his success, including winning the Fighting Network Rings 60 kg title with a first-round TKO. Despite his impressive run, which featured several first-round finishes, Asakura faced his first loss to Je Hoon Moon at Road FC 39 via TKO.
Kai Asakura Rizin Career
Kai Asakura's Rizin journey began on December 29, 2017, with a second-round KO against Kizaemon Saiga. He gained momentum with wins over top names like Manel Kape, Thanongsaklek, and Kyoji Horiguchi, the latter via knockout at Rizin 18. Asakura's six-fight win streak earned him a shot at the Rizin Bantamweight Championship at Rizin 20, where he lost to Kape in a rematch. He later reclaimed the title at Rizin 23 with a first-round KO of Hiromasa Ougikubo.
Competing in the 2021 Bantamweight Grand Prix, Asakura reached the finals but lost to Ougikubo, finishing as the runner-up.
