Kaylee McKeown is an Australian woman swimmer born on 12th July 1999. She hails from Redcliffe city of Queensland in Australia. Kayle specializes in Backstroke and represents Australia in 100m and 200m Backstroke.
Background:
Kaylee McKeown was born to the late Sholto McKeown and his wife. She was born in Redcliffe city and brought up in Dickey Beach of Queensland in Australia. Kaylee has a sister Taylor McKeown who is also a professional swimmer.
Kaylee first stepped into the swimming pool for the first time when she was 6-month old. She went to Pacific Lutheran College at Sunshine Coast in Queensland, where she began to take up swimming competitively. Kaylee joined the Dolphins Swim Team and became the youngest member on the team.
After graduating from Pacific Lutheran College, Kaylee enrolled at the University of Coast Sunshine, where she became a member of USC Spartans swimming club. She represents them at the Australian National Swimming Championships. Kaylee trains under Chris Mooney at Dolphins Swim Team.
Rise to Glory:
Kaylee McKeown first came into the national scene in 2017 by competing at the Australian Swimming Championships, where she won the Silver medal in 200m Backstroke and qualified for the World Aquatics Championships.
In 2019, Kaylee clinched two Gold medals in 50m Backstroke and 400m Individual Medley and a Silver in 100m Backstroke at the Australian Swimming Championships. The following year, she shattered the 200m Backstroke short course swimming world record while claiming the Gold medal at virtual Australian Swimming Championships.
Kaylee Mckeown holds national records in 50m, 100m, 200m Backstroke, 200m Individual Medley, 50m, 200m Backstroke (SC), and 200m Individual Medley (SC).
Major Achievements:
Kaylee McKeown made her international debut at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships, where she won the Silver medal in the 4x100m Medley. She also competed in 200m Backstroke and finished 4th in the final. The following year, she took home a Gold in 50m Backstroke, two Silver medals in 100m Backstroke and 4x100m Medley, a Bronze in 200m Backstroke at the Youth Olympics.
At the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Kayle competed in 100m and 200m Backstroke events and finished 4th in both the events final. In 2019, she won two Silver medals in 200m Backstroke and 4x100m Medley at the World Aquatics Championships. Kaylee also took part in 50m and 100m Backstroke, where she finished 4th and 5th in the respective finals.
Kaylee McKeown will look to qualify for her debut Olympics at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics via Olympic Trials and shall be in contention to medal in 100m and 200m Backstroke.
