Born on October 10, 1993, Lourdes Yunielki Gurriel Castillo Jr. is a Cuban-American professional baseball player who currently plays as a left fielder for the Arizona Diamondbacks in Major League Baseball (MLB). Gurriel previously played for the Toronto Blue Jays Sancti Spíritus and the Industriales of the Cuban National Series before he defected from Cuba.

After his defection, Gurriel was recognized as one of the top international prospects and signed a seven-year contract with the Toronto Blue Jays. He was soon assigned to the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Advanced-A Florida State League to begin his professional journey. Gurriel Jr. later advanced to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats before making his Major League debut on April 20, 2018, against the Texas Rangers. Presently, he is under contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks where he continues to showcase his talents and skills.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. comes from a family of baseball players as both his brother and father have been actively involved in the sport. This led to Gurriel Jr. making his professional debut at the age of 16 in the Cuban National Series with Sancti Spiritus in 2010. In his debut season, he batted .200 in 15 at bats over 16 games, primarily as a pinch hitter. Later on, he played with the Industriales. After retiring, he transitioned into managerial roles, starting with Centrales and leading them to the Super League title in 2003. He also coached the Cuban national team at the 2005 and 2009 World Baseball Classics.

Lastly, his brother Yuli Gurriel is currently playing under the Atlanta Braves organization and has won two World Series so far in his career. Prior to joining Major League Baseball, he played 15 seasons in the Cuban National Series. Their eldest brother Yunieski Gurriel, is retired and played nearly two decades in the Cuban National Series. However, since retiring as a player he has transitioned into coaching.
