Born in Venezuela on April 9, 1997, Luis Sangel Arráez plays second base for the Major League Baseball (MLB) Miami Marlins. Arráez joined the Minnesota Twins in 2013 as an international free agent, and in 2019, he made his Major League Baseball debut. Arráez was an All-Star in 2022 and was the American League hitting champion, in addition to winning the Silver Slugger Award. He was traded to the Marlins by the Twins during the 2022–2023 winter.
Arráez played for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic of 2023 as well. In 19 plate appearances, he slashed .235/.314/.647 with four hits and two walks. Arráez equaled Anthony Santander for the team lead in home runs throughout the tournament with two home runs, both of which came in the quarterfinal matchup versus Team USA. A home run off David Bednar in the seventh inning tied the score, and the first came off Lance Lynn in the first. But in the end, Venezuela lost in the ninth inning and was out of the competition.

Luis Arraez’s Early Life
In November 2013, Arráez signed a contract as an international free agent with the Minnesota Twins. With the Dominican Summer League Twins, he made his professional debut in 2014, hitting .348/.433/.400 with 15 RBIs. In 2015, he was an FCL postseason All-Star and a MiLB.com Organisation All-Star while playing for the GCL Twins. He hit.306/.377/.388 with 19 RBIs. He was a member of the Cedar Rapids Kernels in 2016.
