Early Life and Career
Melsik Baghdasaryan started his martial arts training at the age of six, with karate, before moving on to kickboxing and Muay thai. He has primarily trained at the Glendale Fighting Club throughout his professional career. After losing in his first MMA fight in 2014, he took a break from the sport until 2019 when he returned for his second MMA bout. He went on to win four consecutive fights by knockout, with a total fight time of 62 seconds. In his last fight of the streak, against Art Hernandez, he made his lightweight debut.
Baghdasaryan was given the opportunity to earn a UFC contract at Dana White's Contender Series 31, where he faced Dennis Buzukja. He won the fight with a unanimous decision, but did not receive a contract offer.
Melsik Baghdasaryan’s Career in UFC
In March 2021, Melsik Baghdasaryan joined the UFC. He made his debut for the promotion in July 31, 2021, at UFC on ESPN 28 against Collin Anglin, where he won the fight by knockout in the second round and earned the Performance of the Night award.
In November 6, 2021, Baghdasaryan was scheduled to face T.J. Laramie at UFC 268, but Laramie had to withdraw due to being diagnosed with MRSA, and was replaced by Bruno Souza. The bout took place at a catchweight and Souza had to forfeit 20% of his purse to Baghdasaryan, who won the fight via unanimous decision.
Baghdasaryan was scheduled to face T.J. Laramie again on April 16, 2022, at UFC Fight Night 206, but he had to pull out due to unknown reasons. He was also expected to face Joanderson Brito on October 15, 2022, at UFC Fight Night 212, but he withdrew due to a broken hand.
Baghdasaryan's next fight is scheduled to take place on February 12, 2023, against Joshua Culibao at UFC 284.
