Michael Andrew: A Brief Biography
Michael Andrew is an American swimmer born on 18th April 1999. He hails from Lawrence in Kansas, United States. Michael specializes in Freestyle, Backstroke, Individual Medley, and Butterfly and represents the USA in all these disciplines.
Michael Andrew is originally from South Africa and his parents moved to America in 1997. He began to swim at age of 7. Michael went to a local school in Minnesota, where he took up competitive swimming. At the age of 14, he decided to turn professional swimmers, and hence he gave up his school studies.
Michael first came into the international scene in 2015 when he won the 50m Backstroke title, three Silver medals in 50m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly, and 4x100m Medley, and a Bronze in 4x100m Mixed Medley at the World Junior Swimming Championships. In 2017, he defended his 50m Backstroke title and also won Gold medals in 50m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly.
At the World Swimming Championships, Michael Andrew clinched 5 Gold medals in 100m Medley (2016), 4x50m Freestyle, 4x100m Medley, 4x50m Mixed Freestyle, and 4x50m Mixed Medley, and three Silver in 4x50m Freestyle (2016) and 4x50m Medley (2016 and 2018).
In 2018, Michael became the national champion in the 100m Backstroke at the US National Swimming Championships. The following year, he won the Silver medal in 4x100m Medley at the World Aquatics Championships.
Michael Andrew will look to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics in Backstroke events at the US Olympic Trials.
