Born on August 4, 1997, Michael John Graydon Soroka is a pitcher representing the Chicago White Sox. Soroka, a native of Calgary, is a Bishop Carroll High School alumni. The Atlanta Braves selected him with the 28th overall pick in the 2015 draft. Before getting called to the Braves, he played in the minor leagues for four seasons.
In 2019, Soroka was voted second in the National League Rookie of the Year Award voting and was an MLB All-Star. Before an injury cut short his season in 2020, he was the youngest Opening Day starter in the Braves' recent history. Before returning to the major keagues in 2023, Soroka had to contend with some injuries throughout the next two years.
For the 2023 season, Soroka was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett. On May 29, 1,030 days after his most recent MLB start, the Braves promoted Soroka to the major leagues to start.
