Ryan Crouser: A Brief Biography
Ryan Crouser is an American track and field born on 18th December 1992. He hails from Portland city of Oregon in the United States. Ryan specializes in Discus Throw and Shot Put and represents his nation internationally in these sports.
Background
Ryan Crouser was born to Mitch Crouser and Lisa Crouser. He comes from a family of throwers, where his father and uncle Brain Crouser were part of two different US Olympic Teams in Discus Throw and Javelin Throw, respectively. His cousins, Sam Crouser and Hailey Crouser are Javelin Throwers.
Ryan picked up an interest in track and field while studying in 5th grade of high school. He attended Sam Barlow High School in Oregon and set the state record in Discus Throw by throwing at a distance of 61.72m. The record was later surpassed by his cousin Sam.
After graduating from high school, Ryan joined the University of Texas, where he became a member of Texas Longhorns as a freshman. He represented his college team in NCAA and Big 12 Conference Indoor and Outdoor Championships.
In 2016, Ryan Crouser acquired his Master’s degree in Finance from the University of Texas
Rise to Glory
Ryan Crouser first caught the national limelight in 2008 when he clinched the Gold medal double in Shot Put (17.48m) and Discus Throw (54.94m) at the USA Youth Track and Field Championships. In 2009, he received his first international breakthrough by taking home the Gold medal in Shot Put and Silver in Discus Throw at the World Youth Athletics Championships.
At the 2013 NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Ryan won the title in Shot Put (20.31m) while representing the Texas Longhorns. The following year, he won the NCAA Indoor Shot Put title with a throw of 21.21m at the NCAA Division 1 Indoor Track and Field Championships.
In 2017, Ryan won his first national outdoor title in Shot Put at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. In 2019, he won his first national indoor Shot Put title at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Ryan has 4 national titles (indoor and outdoor combined) in Shot Put.
Major Achievements
Ryan Crouser made his professional international debut at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where he clinched the Gold medal in Shot Put by throwing at a distance of 22.52m. The following year, he competed at the World Athletics Championship and finished 6th with a throw of 21.20 meters.
In 2018, Ryan won the Bronze medal in Shot Put by throwing at a distance of 22.18m at the Diamond League. That year, in September, he finished at 5th position in Shot Put with a throw of 21.63m at the IAAF Continental Cup. In 2019, Ryan Crouser made it to the podium finish with the Silver medal in Shot Put with a throw of 22.90m at the World Athletics Championships.
Ryan Crouser will look to qualify for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics through U.S. Olympic Trials and shall be in contention to win a Gold medal in Shot Put.
