Scott Dixon's Early Life & Career
Scott Dixon started racing at the age of seven with go-karts. Dixon’s parents helped him to start his racing career. He considered New Zealand racing drivers, Chris Amon, Denny Hulme, and Bruce McLaren his role models. Dixon gathered a lot of success in his karting career winning 30 major Australian and New Zealand-based titles. He also won the 1992 New Zealand Junior Restricted Championship.
Dixon started car racing at 12 turning to a professional career in motorsports. Motorsports NZ helped him gain a junior license to compete in Formula Ford events. He won the New Zealand Formula Vee Championship in 1994 in his first attempt and became the youngest driver to claim the achievement. Over the years, Dixon competed in various car racing and open-wheel events earning championship titles. He joined the Formula Ford class in 1992 and became the championship winner in 1996 with eight victories. He competed in the Championship Auto Racing Teams series from 2001 to 2002 in hopes of reaching Formula 1. Even though Dixon landed himself a test with Williams he was ultimately not scouted by the team.
Scott Dixon switched to IndyCar in 2003 debuting with Chip Ganassi Racing. He could adapt himself to oval racing immediately and won the IndyCar championship in his first season in the series.
