Simone Manuel: A Brief Biography

Simone Manuel is an American female swimmer born on 2nd August 1996. She is a native of Sugar Land city of Texas in the United States. She is a Freestyle specialist and represents the USA in 50m, 100m, and 200m Freestyles.

Background:

Simone Manuel was born to Marc Manuel and Sharron Manuel. She was born in Houston and brought up Sugar Land in Texas. Simone has two elder brothers, Christopher Manuel and Ryan Manuel.

Simone picked up an interest in swimming at a young age. She attended Fort Bend Austin High School in her hometown, where began to pursue swimming. In 2013, Simone claimed 50m, 100m, and 200m Freestyles titles while representing her high school at the NCSA Junior National Championships.

In 2014, after graduating from high school, Simone joined the prestigious Stanford University, where she became a member of the swimming team Stanford Cardinal. She had represented them at the NCAA Division 1 Swimming Championships (2014-2018).

In 2018, Simone Manuel graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication. That year, she turned professional by signing the contract with TYR Sport, Inc.

Rise to Glory:

Simone Manuel made her senior national debut at the 2012 US Olympic Trials for the London Olympics, where she was placed 20th in 50m Freestyle and 17th in 100m Freestyle. In 2013, she won her first senior national medal by winning Bronze in 50m Freestyle and a Silver in 100m Freestyle.

In 2015, Simone took home seven NCAA medals, that includes 4 Gold in 50y Freestyle, 100y Freestyle, 4x100y Freestyle, and 4x100y Medley, and three Silver medals in 200y Freestyle, 4x200y Freestyle, and 4x800y Freestyle at the NCAA Division 1 Swimming Championships. Between 2016 and 2019, Simone had won 14 NCAA Championships medals, including 10 titles in 50y Freestyle (2), 100y Freestyle (2), 4x200y Freestyle (2), 4x400y Freestyle, 4x800y Freestyle, 4x200y Medley, and 4x400y Medley.

At the 2014 US National Swimming Championships, Simone won her first national title in 50m Freestyle and a Silver medal in 100m Freestyle. In 2017 and 2018, she won two consecutive national titles in 50m Freestyle and a 100m Freestyle title (2017).

Simone Manuel holds two national Long Course records in 50m and 100m Freestyles and a Short Course record in 100m Freestyle.

Major Achievements:

Simone Manuel made her international debut at the 2013 World Aquatics Championships, where she won the Gold medal in 4x100m Freestyle. The following year, she took home two Silver in 4x100m Freestyle and 4x100m Medley and a Bronze in 100m Freestyle at the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships.

In 2015, Simone won the Gold medal in 4x100m Mixed Freestyle and a Bronze in 4x100m Freestyle at the World Aquatics Championships. She would go on to win nine World Aquatics titles in 100m Freestyle (2017 and 2019), 50m Freestyle (2019), 4x100m Freestyle (2017), 4x100m Mixed Freestyle (2017 and 2019), 4x100m Mixed Medley (2017), and 4x100m Medley (2017 and 2019), three Silver medals in 4x100m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle and 4x100m Mixed Medley (2019), and a Bronze in 50m Freestyle (2017).

Simone Manuel made her Olympics debut at the 2016 Rio Olympics and bagged two Gold medals in 100m Freestyle and 4x100m Medley and as many Silver in 50m Freestyle and 4x100m Freestyle. In 2018, she won four Silver medals in 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle, 4x100m Freestyle, and 4x100m Medley and a Bronze in 4x100m Mixed Medley at the Pan Pacific Championships.

Simone Manuel will look to qualify for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics via US Olympic Trials and shall be in contention to medal in 100m and 50m Freestyles.
