Somdev Devvarman: A Brief Biography
Somdev Kishore Devvarman is a professional Indian tennis player who grabbed the spotlight for being the only collegiate player to have made three consecutive finals at the NCAA, winning back-to-back finals in his junior and senior years. He is noted for making history when he reached the final of the Chennai Open 2009 as a wild card entry, becoming the first Indian to do so. In 2010, Somdev won the Gold medal in the Men`s Singles event of Delhi Commonwealth Games and followed it up with both Men\'s Singles and Doubles Gold in the Guangzhou Asian Games, China. In 2009, Somdev had a successful Davis Cup campaign, winning both his matches against Chinese Taipei. Somdev got a wild card entry into the 2011 Australian Open due to his good performance in 2010 but unfortunately ended up losing to Toms.my Robredo in the first round. The following year, he was awarded a wild card entry to participate in men\'s singles event, in the London Olympics. He is also the recepient of the prestigious Arjuna awrd for his outstanding performance in sports.
