Steve Blackman: A Brief Biography
Steve Blackman is an American martial arts instructor and professional wrestler. He is best known for his work with WWE. He is a former WWF Hardcore Champion.
Professional Wrestling Career
Early Years (1986-1989)
In 1986, Blackman began his wrestling career and finished training at Calgary. He wrestled for several smaller promotions and traveled to Africa. After his trip, he was contracted malaria and dysentery, which caused him to be bedridden for two years.
WWE/F (1997-2002)
In 1997, he made his WWF debut as a martial artist and kept his original name. During his time with the company, he has appeared at major shows. In 1998, he began feuding with Ken Shamrock for the WWF Intercontinental Championship and lost. He lost a Iron Circle and Lion's den match to Shamrock which ended their feud. Later, he feuded with Mark Henry and Val Venis and lost.
After several failed feuds, he teamed up with Al Snow to form Head Cheese. His gimmick went from a serious character to a comedic character. The team were in the tag team division but failed to win the titles from The New Age Outlaws. After WrestleMania 2000, the team parted ways.
In 2000, he joined the hardcore division. Blackman rose to prominence as the WWF Hardcore Champion. At SummerSlam, Blackman defeated Shane McMahon for the title. During the match, Blackman attacked McMahon with a kendo stick, which led him to fall off from 15 feet of height. After becoming the longest-reigning WWF Hardcore Champion, Blackman left the promotions in 2002. Even after his departure, Blackman made a handful of appearances for the company.
