Varun Thakkar: A Brief Biography
Varun Thakkar is an Indian sailor born on 10th February 1995. He hails from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He represents India internationally in Laser Standard and Regatta.
Varun Thakkar- Early Life, Family & Biography
Varun Thakkar got his first career break in 2010 when he finished second in the 29er event at the India International Regatta. In 2011, he finished at 5th position at the Laser Coastal National Championships. That year, in July, Varun won the Silver medal at the Laser Inland National Sailing Championship.
Varun Thakkar Achievements
In February 2012, Varun won the bronze medal in the 29er class at the 15th Asian Sailing Championship. In 2014, he competed at the 49er Junior World Championships in Denmark, where he finished 24th. The following year, Varun finished 56th at the ISAF World Cup in Miami, USA.
In 2018, Varun Thakkar won the gold medal at the 17th Asian Sailing Championship in Jakarta, Indonesia. That year, in November, he became the senior national champion at the YAI Senior National Championship. The following year, Varun finished second at the 49er Asian Championship in Abu Dhabi.
In April 2021, Varun Thakkar qualified for his debut Olympics in sailing at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics by securing the Silver medal in Laser Standard at the Mussanah Open Championship in Oman. Mussanah Open Championship is one of the 4 Asian Qualification tournaments for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
