Zachary Apple: A Brief Biography
Zach Apple is an American swimmer born on 23rd April 1997. He is a native of Trenton city of Ohio in the United States. Zach is a freestyle specialist and represents the USA in 100m and 200m Freestyles.
Background
Zach Apple was born to Doug Apple and Allison Apple. He was born and brought up in Trenton City in Ohio. He has a younger sister, Rachel Apple.
Zach didn’t pursue an interest in swimming until the age of 16. He was pursuing an interest in sports like basketball and track. He went to Edgewood High School in his hometown. Zach began to take up professional swimming after he joined GMVY Wahoos swimming club.
After graduating from high school, Zach joined Auburn University, where he became a member of Auburn Tigers from 2015 to 2018, and in his final year of college, he transferred to Indiana University and joined Hoosier from 2018 to 2019. Zach had represented both the college teams in NCAA Championships.
In 2019, Zach Apple graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science.
Rise to Glory
Zach Apple’s career breakthrough came in 2015 when he won the 50m Freestyle title and a Silver medal in 200m Freestyle at the YMCA National Swimming Championships. The following year, he made his NCAA debut while representing Auburn Tigers and finished 19th in 50 y Freestyle, 35th in 100 y Freestyle, and 20th in 200m Freestyle at the NCAA Division 1 Swimming Championships.
In 2017, Zach made his national debut at the USA National Swimming Championships, where he finished 4th in 100m Freestyle. That year, at the NCAA Division 1 Championships, he improved his position in 100 y Freestyle by finishing 14th and 12th in 200 y Freestyle.
At the 2018 US National Swimming Championships, Zach finished 4th in 100m Freestyle and 5th in 50m Freestyle. In 2019, Zach swept 5 Gold medals in 100m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle, 4x100m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle, and 4x100m Medley at the World University Games.
At the 2019 NCAA Division 1 Swimming Championships, representing Hoosier, Zach Apple won the 4x400 y Medley title, a Silver in 200 y Freestyle, and Bronze in 100 y Freestyle NCAA Division 1 Swimming Championships.
Major Achievements
Zach Apple made his international debut at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships, where he won the 4x400m Freestyle prelims and received a Gold medal after his relay team won in the final. The following year, he competed at the Pan Pacific Championships and won the Gold medal in 4x200m Freestyle.
In 2019, Zach won two Gold medals in 4x100m Freestyle and 4x100m Mixed Freestyle and a Bronze in 4x200m Freestyle at the World Aquatics Championships.
Zach Apple will look to make his Olympic debut at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics via US Olympic Trials and shall be in contention to win a medal in 100m Freestyle.
