Zack Wheeler is an American pitcher who plays for the Philadelphia Phillies in the Major League Baseball (MLB). He started his Major League journey with the New York Mets.
Wheeler was selected sixth overall by the San Francisco Giants in the 2009 MLB draft. After spending two years with the minor teams he was traded to the New York Mets. In June 2013, Wheeler pitched six scoreless innings in the second game of a doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves to make his major league debut. He was the first pitcher in Phillies history to allow three or fewer runs in each of his first ten starts, and he allowed only three home runs, the fewest of any pitcher with at least 70 innings pitched in 2020. He was selected to the All-Star game and the All-MLB Second Team in 2021. He was also the NL strikeout leader that year.

Zack was 13 when the Wheeler family relocated to Dallas, Georgia. Wheeler played basketball and baseball at East Paulding High School, as opposed to Campbell High School like his siblings. In 2008, Wheeler was the Georgia High School Association 4A Region Pitcher of the Year after posting an 8–3 win–loss record, 1.31 earned run average (ERA), and 127 strikeouts in 64+1⁄3 innings thrown as a junior. The following season, he set a school record with 149 strikeouts in 76 innings, and was named the Gatorade Georgia Player of the Year. The San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball picked Wheeler in the first round (6th overall) of the 2009 MLB draft. At the time, he had committed to playing college baseball at Kennesaw State.
