Rachel Green’s family wealth is not explicitly mentioned in the popular American sitcom "Friends," though her father, Dr. Leonard Green, was a vascular surgeon and extremely rich and powerful but not a very likable man.

Dr. Leonard Green, portrayed by Ron Leibman, was a very critical and perfectionist kind of person, though he was very successful in his career. All of his daughters, including Rachel, Amy, and Jill, were spoiled rotten and had no understanding of how the real world works or would work without their father’s credit card. In one instance, Dr. Green bought Rachel a boat when her pony was sick. They apparently lived in a mansion and easily spent $40,000 on Rachel and Barry’s wedding.

Also, Barry was the guy Rachel left at the altar and ran straight to Monica, as she didn’t want to marry Barry, and this is where the story began in season 1. Rachel slowly and gradually learned to live without her father’s money and by earning on her own. And by the conclusion of the series, she did get a job in Paris in the fashion industry, in which she had been interested for a long time.

Rachel Green’s Parents

The Greens were a powerful and affluent family. Rachel and her sisters Amy and Jill were raised by Leonard and Sandra Green. The only time Leonard and Sandra spoke to one another was when they were fighting; their marriage had been sinking for years and had ended in season 2 through divorce.

Leonard Green (Ron Leibman)

He is portrayed as a very unpleasant and somewhat immoral person who is an overbearing perfectionist who expects everything his children do to produce immediate, flawless results. He could occasionally be a little bit stingy. Shortly after Rachel left her fiancé Barry at the altar, he and his wife got divorced; Rachel's mother remarked, "You didn't marry your Barry, honey, but I married mine." Even though his relationship with Rachel is somewhat strained, he has admitted to his friends and youngest daughter Jill that Rachel is the only child of his that he is proud of.

Dr. Leonard Green was the son of Ida Green; it is unknown if he had any siblings. Later on, he trained as a vascular surgeon, amassed enormous wealth, and even bought a mansion and a boat. He married a woman named Sandra, but the union was doomed to failure because they couldn't get along, quarreled frequently, and hardly even communicated. They had three daughters together: Amy, Rachel, and Jill. Sandra claimed that, on the whole, Leonard was more interested in and concerned about his boat than she was.

Sandra Green (Marlo Thomas)

Sandra is the ex-wife of Dr. Greene, and their marriage fell apart for various reasons. It appears that they were only married for financial gain and not out of true love. Rachel claims that they hardly exchanged words, as evidenced by the fact that the gang throws Rachel's birthday parties with Rachel's mother in Rachel's apartment and her father’s in Joey and Chandler's apartment. They ultimately divorced in Season 2 and were never again able to be in the same space.

As part of her celebration of her impending divorce from her husband, she once asked Monica Geller and Rachel if they had any marijuana. At the lesbian wedding of Carol and Susan, she also danced with a "wonderfully large woman," noting that while it wasn't something she inevitably would pursue, it was "nice to know I have options." She calls the ugly naked man an "unattractive naked man" and remarks on his behavior after seeing him.

Sandra Greene exhibits a lot of the traits Rachel had before she went out on her own, such as relying on others for money, showing no respect for those who work for minimum wage, and being lax about marriage. She claims, however, that she too aspires to be independent after witnessing Rachel happy in her independent state.

Rachel Green’s casting

Téa Leoni, the producer's first choice, and Courteney Cox both turned down the role of Rachel; Leoni chose to star in the sitcom The Naked Truth, and Cox chose to portray Rachel's best friend Monica in Friends.

Aniston, a comparatively unknown actress at the time who had previously appeared in five brief sitcoms, turned down the chance to join the cast of Saturday Night Live in order to audition for Rachel. Aniston was briefly in danger of being replaced after landing the role and before Friends premiered because she was also associated with another sitcom at the time, Muddling Through. Fortunately, Muddling Through was canceled, allowing Aniston to stay on Friends.

Throughout Friends' ten-year run, Rachel has consistently received favorable reviews. The A.V. Club credited the character with a large portion of the show's early success. However, some of her plots have come under fire, particularly the romance she had with Joey Tribbiani during season 10. The character's second-season haircut also started a global phenomenon. Rachel's popularity propelled her to the show's breakout role, and she has since been named one of the best TV characters of all time.

Despite the fact that Aniston disliked the character's shag, which was given her name, it is still one of the most widely worn hairstyles in history and is imitated by millions of women worldwide. Rachel's impact on womenswear in the 1990s has led to her recognition as a style icon. The character's relationship with Ross, meanwhile, is frequently mentioned as one of the most cherished on television.

Other members of the Green Family

Other members of the Green family include Rachel, Jill, and Amy Green, daughters of Leonard and Sandra. In essence, a traditional stereotype of wealthy people holds that men are hard-working, competitive workers and women are typical socialites desperate-for-love. Another example of stereotypes is how all of the daughters were spoiled rotten, naive, and mean.

Rachel (Jennifer Aniston)

Rachel Green is one of the six main characters in the American sitcom Friends. The character, played by Jennifer Aniston, was created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman and appeared in all 236 episodes of the show over the course of its ten-year run, from its 1994 debut to its 2004 finale.

As a young, naive runaway bride who meets up with her best friend from childhood, Monica Geller, and moves to New York City in the show's pilot, Rachel gradually develops from a spoiled, inexperienced "daddy's girl" into a prosperous businesswoman. Ross, Monica's brother, with whom she has a complicated on-off relationship throughout the series, becomes the character's romantic interest during the second season of the show. Later on, Ross and Rachel have a daughter together, Emma, in season seven.

Amy (Christina Applegate)

One of Rachel's two sisters, Amy Green, makes her debut in "The One with Rachel's Other Sister" (S09E08). She is disappointed that, in the event that Rachel and Ross passed away, she would not be granted custody of Emma when she gets to Monica and Chandler's for Thanksgiving dinner.

She greatly irritates the friends with her brutally honest opinions of them and her selfish, egoistic attitude, though she seems a little frightened of Monica, convinced that she is crazy. She is a rude, hedonistic, imbecilic, amoral, shallow, and utterly unlikeable bully who couldn’t care less about other people's feelings.

Chandler firmly reprimands both of them as a parent would and insists that Amy apologize for ruining Thanksgiving, which she does when Rachel and Amy later fight because Rachel feels the latter insulted Emma and they accidentally break one of Monica's plates. After offering to let Amy use her employee discount from Ralph Lauren, Rachel also mends her relationship with Amy.

Jill (Reese Witherspoon)

In "The One with Rachel's Sister," Jill Green arrives at Monica and Chandler's home believing Rachel still resides there. Jill's access to money has been cut off by their father, who has also sent her to live with Rachel, "the only daughter he's ever been proud of."

She shares many traits with her other sister, Amy, including being self-absorbed, ditzy, shallow, and spoiled, but is much kinder to Rachel and her friends. Jill ignores Rachel's attempts to teach her the ways of the world and instead spends her money on herself.

She dates Ross out of spite for Rachel and is occasionally baffled by his and her quirks, but she breaks up with him in the following episode after Ross rejects her and she wrecks his slide projector in her rage. In season 10, Jill is referred to when Amy gleefully admits she has gained fifteen pounds and has become fat.
