Dragon Soul is an action RPG where the core gameplay has you fight against enemies in the open world. You can tackle foes as a part of a questline or simply while roaming the game world. As you continue defeating mobs, you will gain experience, level up, and earn stat points to invest in various stats.

Leveling up also gives you access to various skills that can improve your combat prowess by leaps and bounds. Their effectiveness varies based on your skill point distribution, making them intrinsically linked.

Being an RPG, a major part of Dragon Soul is its Quest system. Broadly speaking, there are two types of Quests in the experience: Story and Side Quests. Story Quests take you through an original story featuring characters inspired by the famous animanga series Dragon Ball. It is where you will find most of the tutorials as well.

As for Side Quests, they are optional content that can be completed for extra XP, skills, and Zeni, the in-game currency. While not strictly necessary, they are useful for leveling up a few times to meet certain Main Quest level conditions.

• Combat Basics: By default, you have the ability to punch, use Ki blasts, and teleport behind the opponent with a button press. Using skills and Ki blasts consumes your Ki gauge, necessitating periodic recharges. As you level up, your skill set will expand and your battle power will skyrocket. Use a mixture of your abilities to trounce enemies, and earn XP and Zeni.
• Character Customization: Your avatar can be customized to your heart’s content, with the character creator taking cues from the works of several animanga creators. From hair and facial features to clothing and accessories, every facet of your avatar can be fully changed to fit your vision.
• Skill Point Allocation: Upon leveling up, you will earn skill points that can be allocated to one of four stats: Strength, Ki Power, Max Health, and Max Ki. The first two are combat-centric stats, where Strength improves your punches and melee skills while Ki Power increases the effectiveness of Ki-based moves. Max Health and Max Ki increase the maximum limit of your HP and Ki gauges.
• Skills: Equip up to 10 skills and swap out different moves at any time. These powerful techniques deal devastating damage to the enemy while consuming your Ki meter. After using a skill, it enters a cooldown state that must elapse before it can be used again. The stronger the skill, the longer the cooldown.

• Quests: As mentioned, the game has two main types of Quests: Story and Side Quests. Story Quests are indicated by the scroll icon, while Side content is marked with an exclamation point. A third type is the Daily Quest, identifiable with its unique cyan question mark. These can be completed every day for a few additional rewards.
• Gear: Equip different gear pieces to improve your ability to take hits and receive stat bonuses. Gear pieces can be purchased from vendors in the open world or the premium Store option in the main menu.
• PvP Battles: The game features a Ranked Battles mode, where players can test their skills against each other to see who is the strongest. Ranked Battles are structured in the form of a tournament, featuring a pool of players where only one can be the winner. This mode can be unlocked by talking to the NPC Misty in Echo Village.
