Type Soul features a rich progression system with varied skills and abilities. Its core rank system is named “Grade,” which you can increase to open several gameplay opportunities. Players at the highest grades have access to better gear, advanced skills, and challenging quests.
The system differs for each race, making it a diverse and highly varied system. This can become a little difficult to follow for newcomers, which is where this guide comes in. Read on to learn all about grades in Type Soul and how you can rise through the ranks efficiently.
An overview of Grades in Type Soul
Grades represent the ranks in Type Soul, serving as both an indication of your experience and skill in the game. Increasing your grade is one of the main ways you can interact with the game and ranking up makes more content available to you.
For instance, Quincies can unlock a skill called Voltstanding once they reach Elite Grade. This skill is one of the most powerful abilities in the game and can destroy any foe with ease.

Increasing your Grade in Type Soul
All races feature an XP system, which contributes to your overall grade. Completing quests and missions rewards you with experience points and the more points you get, the higher you can rank up. That said, XP is just one of many ways to increase your grade.
Each race has exclusive ways to increase its grade levels, from special minigames to alternative tasks like collecting a particular type of XP. This variation brings enough variety to the gameplay loop that makes the playable races feel distinct and special in their own way.
Increasing your grade as a Soul Reaper
Soul Reapers require several types of experience points to increase their grade. These experience types become diverse as you continue to grade up, allowing you to branch out when the grind starts to feel a little repetitive. Of course, having to collect five types of XP does make the process of ranking somewhat lengthy.
The Trainee grade, being the base grade, only requires mission XP to improve the rank. You can continue blitzing through quests for mission XP until you reach Grade 3. Once in Grade 3, Soul Reapers must join a division to collect division XP alongside mission XP to reach Grade 2.
From Grade 2 onwards, you must obtain Shikai XP by defeating the associated boss to rank up. The XP requirements from the previous grades are still present and accounted for. Upon reaching Semi-Grade 1, you will be required to collect raid XP and grip XP to become a part of the Elite Grade.
Increasing your grade as a Quincy
Quincies also need multiple types of XP to increase their grades, alongside having to kill several Hollow NPCs. The requirement is not as strict for this race from Grade 5 to Semi-Grade 1, as it only demands you to collect mission XP to successfully rank up.
From Semi-Grade 1 onwards, you need mission XP, raid XP, and grip XP to reach the Elite Grade while keeping your Hollow NPC kill count high.
Increasing your grade as a Hollow / Arrancar
Offering the simplest way to grade up in Type Soul, Arrancars and Hollows only need mission XP to rise from Grade 5 to Semi-Grade 1. Once in Semi-Grade 1, you must collect raid XP, grip XP, and mission XP to reach the Elite ranks.
