Olivia’s Murder Mystery 2 has the players in a server divided into three roles: Sheriff, Innocents, and Murderers. Each match can only have one Sheriff and Murderer, while the remaining players take the roles of Innocents.

At its core, Murder Mystery 2 is all about fighting for survival. The Sheriff and the Murderer are locked in a game of cat-and-mouse with the Innocents stuck in the middle. For much of the game, the Sheriff will be scouring the map to identify the killer, while the Murderer will do what they can to avoid the Sheriff while killing everyone else on the map.

If the Sheriff eliminates the Murderer, they and the Innocents will win the match. Should the opposite happen, the Murderer will secure the victory instead.

• Playable Roles: Sheriff, Innocent, and Murderer. These roles are chosen at random when the match starts, meaning that no player has a higher chance of being in a particular role than the others.
• Sheriff: A Sheriff is responsible for sniffing the Murderer out and shooting them with the gun. The difficulty with this task is that the Murderer isn’t marked. So, the law enforcer must look for signs of the killer and take them out discreetly. Doing so successfully ends the match immediately and gives the Sheriff and the Innocents the win. Moreover, if a Sheriff kills an Innocent, they will die too as a consequence of their actions.
• Innocent: The Innocents are the largest player faction and the most vulnerable as well. Their task is to live through the events of the match without being targeted by the killer. They can also collect coins scattered around the map, which can be used as the primary in-game currency.
• Murderer: The Murderer’s task is the most involved of the three, as they must take care not to be killed by the Sheriff while killing everyone in the match. They have access to throwing knives. Eliminating everyone in the match gives them the win.
• Hero: If the Sheriff dies at the Murderer's hands, one of the Innocents has a chance to become the Hero of the match. They receive a gun to hunt the Murderer down with and can battle the killer to secure the victory and save the Innocents.

• Survival XP: Players gain experience points for surviving during a match. The longer they survive, the more XP they gain, and the better the rewards they obtain at the end of the match.
• Weapons: There are two types of weapons in the game: guns for Sheriffs and knives for Murderers. Certain Legendary weapons have unique designs and offer bonuses as well.
• Trade: You can trade the contents of your inventory with other players. This can help you get rare items that are difficult to obtain or are no longer available.
