Overview

Project Afternight is a PvP-centric game where you must time your button presses as the notes appear on the screen. Each note corresponds to a directional key on your keyboard, which can either be the arrow keys or WSAD, depending on your preference.

Timing your button presses correctly increases your score while mistiming them reduces it. Maintaining a streak of correctly timed button presses will cause your score to skyrocket and vice versa, incentivizing precision during gameplay.

You can initiate a match by walking to a set of speakers in the overworld and interacting with one of its sides. Then, you can either invite a friend or player on the server or wait for someone to join the other side. Once the match begins, show off your beatboxing skills, rack up a high score, and try to outpace your opponent to win.

  • Rhythm-based gameplay: Your main objective is to defeat your opponent by following the correct rhythm and pressing the corresponding buttons as the notes overlay the directional icons. Since this game incorporates sound into its core gameplay loop, it is highly advised to keep your game audio on, as the music is essential to ensure you get the rhythm.
  • PvP matches: PvP matches make up for the lion’s share of this experience. You can take on other players on the server and test your skills against the best of the best. Initiate a friendly bout by interacting with the speakers in the overworld. Alternatively, accept a challenge from one of the players using the pop-up at the top of the screen.
  • Massive track collection: You and your opponent can pick from a library of dozens of songs from various sources to play in a match. Tracks from popular franchises, other Roblox experiences, and renowned artists can be selected after a match is initiated. The game plays one of the two tracks randomly when the match begins, giving each player’s choice a 50% chance to be the selected musical piece.
  • Difficulty: Each track has a difficulty assigned to it, which governs the speed and frequency of the notes that appear on the screen. The higher the difficulty, the faster and more frequently the notes appear. More difficult songs reduce the margin of error significantly, while easier ones have plenty of leeway as far as errors are concerned. You can alter the difficulty of a track by checking the Modifiers and Rates settings on the right side of the Track Selection screen.
  • In-game shop: You can obtain a myriad of animation sets, emotes, and cosmetics from the in-game shop. Each item has a specific unlock criterion, which must be fulfilled to gain access to the corresponding item. The purchasable item stock also includes noteskins, note splashes, hold splashes, icons, and tags.
