Derelict is a Roblox experience that takes inspiration from Dark Souls and prominent MMO titles. This title puts you in a desolate world, where you must fight tooth and nail to discover the secrets left behind by mysterious figures. Being a Souls-like, the game is quite demanding, requiring you to master the movesets of each enemy before defeating them.
Here’s how you can get started in Derelict and pave your way to more advanced areas.
Getting started in Derelict
Overview
Developed by Scrambledly Studios, Derelict offers a satisfying experience for those who prefer a challenge. Featuring various dungeons in an open world, quests to embark on, skills to master, and more, this role-playing game includes several mechanics to master.
As is the standard with Souls games, this experience has an HP bar, a Souls bar, and a Stamina bar. The HP bar indicates how many hits you can take, whereas the Souls bar allows you to cast spells and use weapon arts. The Stamina bar is consumed when performing taxing actions like sprinting, rolling, swinging weapons, etc.
You can upgrade your weapons and armor, cook a delicious meal, craft potions, and find spells to cast as you progress through the open world. Find NPCs to interact with and partake in commerce with specific vendors using the resources you find during your adventures.
Of course, the meat of the game is with the dungeons and its bosses. As you spelunk towards the end of a dungeon, you will be greeted by its strongest occupant. Defeating this formidable enemy is no small feat, but it is extremely rewarding nonetheless.
The more you fight enemies, the higher your Insight level will rise and thus, the stronger you will become.

Gameplay Mechanics
- Open World Adventure: The game is set in an open world, with threats lurking around every corner. Explore the vast map to find 16 distinct areas teeming with enemies, friendly NPCs, and loot that can help you prepare for your next adventure. Collect resources for upgrades, crafting, and cooking, and do everything in your power to ensure your survival.
- Dungeons: Meticulously crafted dungeons populate the world, where you will encounter special loot being guarded by bosses. These areas are special, in that they break the open-world formula and stick to a somewhat linear path. Clear every dungeon to obtain various weapons, armor, and other resources.
- Combat: Dodge, parry, and attack your way through the enemies in this game. As is typical with such games, you cannot overindulge in any of the three actions, lest it end in your swift defeat. Dodges give you a few short moments of invincibility, while parrying allows you to deflect the enemy’s attack and deplete their posture meter. Observe the enemy’s moveset and time your action to successfully execute it and seize the right moment to strike.
- Weapons: Weapons are the primary tool used for combat. Compared to the bare fists that each play-through starts with, they deal a significant amount of damage. With upgrades, they have the potential to shred through the enemy’s HP. Each weapon comes with a Weapon Art, a special equipable skill that deals hefty damage to the opponent. Weapon Arts have a cooldown before they can be used again.
- Ranged Combat: If you favor ranged combat, you can use Bows and Tomes to strike enemies from afar. Bows require you to equip a quiver for arrows, while Spell Tomes consume the Souls bar for casting spells.
- Level-Ups: There are two types of level-ups in the game: Insight levels and Skill levels. Forgoing traditional XP-based levels, the Insight levels are gained with Skill levels. The more you level up your skills, the higher your Insight level becomes. Skills, on the other hand, can be leveled up the more you use them. This is akin to the latest The Elder Scrolls games, where using a skill gives you experience for that specific skill without progressing any other.
- Quests: You can talk to NPCs and go on quests that reward you with valuable loot. This always makes them worth prioritizing, as they can lead to new dungeons and areas that you may have missed. For instance, the first NPC you encounter, Gideon, gives you tutorial quests that help you get started with the game. Be sure to finish these before proceeding to tackle the vast open world.
- Crafting and Upgrades: Crafting, cooking, and upgrades involve scouring the map for the relevant resources and using them to create the desired item. Crafting and cooking can be performed on your own, while weapon upgrades are provided by the NPC Gideon.
