Being a builder game, Theme Park Tycoon 2 starts you off with an empty lot that acts as the clean slate where you can start your park. Offering ride options, decorations, in-park shops, and conveniences aplenty for your guests, this title puts you in the shoes of both the builder and the manager.

The main objective of the title is to build up your theme park into the biggest 5-star version of itself. As your park expands, so will the cash flow, allowing you to build more rides and earn more from the visitors in the process. The resulting earnings can be reinvested into buying an adjacent plot for further expansion.

As you develop your park, it’s imperative to keep an eye on guest feedback. Complying with their requests will make the park more successful, increasing your cash flow while simultaneously helping your star rating rise.

The loop of build-manage-reinvest forms the core of this experience, around which the remaining elements fit in snugly. Juggle these elements to the best of your abilities and watch as your creation rakes in millions of in-game cash.

  • The Ultimate Park Builder: Theme Park Tycoon 2 places no limits on what you can build in the empty lot, so long as it does not conflict with geometry. You can choose the theme of the amusement park, use specific building materials and rides, or even lay the path down however you like.
  • Rides: Various types of rides are available to be placed in the empty lot. You can choose from intense rides like Twister and Roller Coasters to gentler ones like Teacups. They can be placed anywhere in the park, so long as they have accessible entry and exit points. This is to ensure that your guests can use the rides without being impeded.
  • Stalls: No theme park is complete without a few stalls to shop around in. Let your guests have a good time with food and souvenir stalls. Consider placing them along the main path to maximize your earnings.
  • Scenery: Good decorative elements go a long way in making an amusement park attractive to the visitor’s eye. You can use flowerbeds, fountains, decorative rocks, and much more to keep the viewers interested in your park. Place a few park benches on the main path as well to give them somewhere to rest their legs.
  • Terrain: Not only can you change what is on the empty lot, but you can also alter what the lot looks like. Starting with a grassy field, you can alter it to any color or material you like. Simply choose the terrain from the menu and place the blocks in the desired area.
  • Star Rating: Your park is assigned a star rating of up to 5, which showcases the quality of your park. The higher the star rating, the more visitors are likely to show up. Increasing it requires you to use every element in your repertoire judiciously and price them fairly. After all, it would be folly to overprice a low-star park.
  • Guest Happiness: Guest happiness plays a major role in your income and, in turn, your star rating. You can check visitors’ comments by clicking the 'i' icon next to the Guests tab on the top right. If the comments are negative, act upon them and rectify the mistakes quickly. That way, your visitor retention will remain high and your income will soar.
  • Missions: The game offers a few missions that can be completed for Credits. Credits are one of the two primary currencies in the game and can be used to purchase plots, skins, and other rare items.
