Tower Defense X is, as the name suggests, a tower-defending Roblox experience where you place units to fend off enemies and defend the home base. One of the newest additions to its roster of towers is the Golden Mine Layer, a unit that uses golden mines rather liberally. It is the first Golden unit to be available for purchase using both Gold and Robux, making it accessible to both free-to-play and paying players.

This article discusses everything you need to know about the Golden Mine Layer and how to use it in battle.

Like its predecessor, the Mine Layer, the Golden Mine Layer places mines along the desired path to deal damage to the enemy. It can dish out splash damage and break through stun resistance using its various abilities. You can obtain the Golden Mine Layer for 69,000 Gold or 2,900 Robux. Its deployment cost is at a measly 600 Cash, making it worth the investment to place it early on.

The Golden Mines it places last a little over a minute, which is long enough for an enemy wave to reach its position. Depending on the chosen upgrade path, the mines can last as long as 265 seconds, which can last multiple enemy waves. Moreover, one of the final upgrades gives it the ability to stun the enemy, allowing your damage dealers to pile on even more damage.

Its ability to create high-damage zones through mines makes it well-suited as the last line of defense. You can place multiple Golden Mine Layers close to the home base, where they can pick off stragglers who escape your main damage dealers.

Golden Mine Layer Upgrade Paths and Abilities

The Golden Mine Layer has two upgrade paths: the Top Path and the Bottom Path. Its Top Path is the cost-effective option that focuses on a mine-throwing crossbow, only requiring 31,350 Cash to fully upgrade.

In contrast, the Bottom Path prioritizes mine-effectiveness, with a higher mine lifetime, a damage-over-time effect, and the ability to stun enemies. You need 94,125 Cash to max out the Bottom Path.

Here are the abilities you gain by investing in the Top Path:

  • Faster Arming: 10-second Golden Mine Lifetime; reduced Reload time by 7 seconds; increased HP by 50 points
  • Advanced Training: Increased damage by 25; reduced Reload time by 5 seconds, increased HP by 100 points
  • Crossbow: Increased damage by 70, widened Splash radius by 1 point, decreased Reload time by 4 seconds, Crossbow Lvl 1 ability; increased HP by 275 points
  • Faster Reload: Increased damage by 85; reduced Reload time by 2 seconds; Crossbow Lvl 2 ability; increased HP by 650 points
  • S-Crossbow: Increased damage by 100; increased Splash radius by 1 point; Crossbow Lvl 3 ability; increased HP by 1,000 points

The Golden Mine Layer gets the following abilities from the Bottom Path:

  • Life Span: Increased Golden Mine lifetime by 25 seconds; increased HP by 50 points
  • HE Mine: Increased damage by 20; increased Splash radius by 2 points, increased HP by 125 points
  • X Fire Mine: Increased damage by 165; 10 DPS Red Thermite for 10 seconds; increased Golden Mine lifetime by 50 seconds; increased HP by 72.5 points
  • Napalm: Increased damage by 325; 10 DPS Red Thermite for 10 seconds; increased Golden Mine Lifetime by 60 seconds; Increased HP by 1,250 points
  • S-Mine: Increased damage by 925; 100 DPS Thermite for 10 seconds; 1-second Stun; bypass Explosive resistance; increased Mine Lifetime by 50 seconds; increased Splash Radius by 1.5 points; Charged Throw ability; increased HP by 3,000 points

Despite the hefty upgrade cost, the Bottom Path becomes more effective for longer battles, particularly since the mines it places last a long time. You can go for a mix of both ability paths with a focus on one for a more balanced unit, depending on the situation.
