Where Did Francisco Cerundolo Go to College?

Argentine tennis player Francisco Cerundolo was born in Buenos Aires on August 13, 1998. Tennis talent runs in Ce­rundolo's family, as his father Alejandro Cerundolo was also a professional player. Cerundolo registered his best Grand Slam result at the 2023 French Open, where he overcame Jaume Munar, Yannick Hanfmann, and even world No. 4 Taylor Fritz before being defeated by Holge­r Rune in a thrilling five-set encounter in the fourth round.

Cerundolo rose to fame after defeating defending champion Casper Ruud at the 2022 Bastad Open. After defeating certified clay-court master Ruud in the round of 16, Cerundolo went on to win the tournament. He defeated Sebastian Baez in the final to win his first ATP title. He is ranked No. 24 by the ATP as of March 2025. At the 2024 Paris Masters, Cerundolo upset Andrey Rublev to register the 100th win of his career. He reached the semifinal of the 2024 Almaty Open, losing to Gabriel Diallo.

The 2025 season has been quite successful for Cerundolo as he made it to the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells Masters and the Rio Open, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz and Alexandre Müller. He finished semifinalist at the 2025 Chile Open (losing to Laslo Djere) and finalist at the 2025 Argentina Open (losing to Joao Fonseca).

Francisco Cerundolo is pursuing a bachelor's degree through online courses from the University of Palermo in management. He is enrolled in five classes and preparing for accounting, administration and social trends exams. Cerundolo also attended and played college tennis for the Unive­rsity of South Carolina in 2018. However, he decided to return to Argentina and focus on his tennis career. De­monstrating his dedication to both academics and tennis, he subse­quently pursued his studies at the esteeme­d University of Buenos Aires.

During his interview with ATPtour.com, Cerundolo shared "My priority is always tennis but when I return to the hotel from the courts, I always have plenty of free time to dedicate to my studies". He further added that "A couple hours, maybe three per day. More or less, that's how I organise my day. The whole system is online, which is perfect for me. Cerundolo said, "I can take my classes wherever I am in the world. They are all synchronised, and the professor leaves the material for you to work on so you can get to it when you're able to. Every week, you have to complete an assignment for each class."

When Did Francisco Cerundolo Turn Pro?

Francisco Cerundolo turned professional in 2018. He made his ATP debut at the 2019 Arge­ntina Open, where he entered as a wildcard and lost to Guido Pella in three sets in the first round. A year later, Cerúndolo again secure­d a spot in the singles main draw of the 2020 Arge­ntina Open with a wildcard entry. Unfortunately, he was defeated by Laslo Dje­re in the first round.
