According to reports, he asked his mother, Julia Apostoli, to leave the stadium for speaking in Russian during the match. After losing the first set, Tsitsipas was animated at his box, and his mother soon got up and sat on a different seat. Tsitsipas was furious at his mother Julia for speaking in Russian, and asked her to leave the stadium. He did not want his mother to give him instructions in Russian as he was playing a Russian opponent.
Julia Apostoli, Tsitsipas’ mother, was a former professional tennis player who played for both the Soviet Union and Greece. His father, Apostolos Tsitsipas, was also a former tennis player.
